Chiefs vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Week 15 Odds, Prediction

It’s a very big game in the AFC West Division on Thursday night in Week 15 as the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs are 3.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds with a total of 50.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

With all due respect to the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders, the AFC West is going to be won by either the Chiefs or Chargers – and probably dominated for years by those two teams because of quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert. Kansas City has won the West five straight seasons, while the Chargers haven’t since 2009.

Los Angeles would have to be considered the division favourite if it wins here because it also beat the Chiefs 30-24 in a Week 3 upset. That was back-and-forth all day, with the Bolts tying it on a 24-yard field goal with 2:14 left and winning on a Herbert to Mike Williams 4-yard TD pass with 32 seconds remaining. Herbert had four TD passes.

Originally, the Chargers were going to try a 48-yard field goal on that winning TD drive, but Coach Brandon Staley changed his mind and went for it on fourth down. A pass interference penalty gave LA a first down. Kansas City largely dominated statistically but had four turnovers, including two picks from Mahomes. He did have three TD throws.

Kansas City is 0-3-1 against the spread in the past four meetings.

Kansas City Chiefs

When did the Chiefs become the 1985 Chicago Bears defensively? That unit was a major issue early this season but Kansas City has allowed 17 points or fewer in six straight games – all wins. On Sunday, that defence forced a Raiders fumble on the first offensive play of the game and returned it for a touchdown on the way to a 48-9 blowout, the largest margin of victory in the history of that long-running series. Tyrann Mathieu had an interception and fumble recovery, and Mike Hughes forced two fumbles and had that TD return on a recovered fumble.

Kansas City is the first team since the 2014 Seahawks (Weeks 12-13, Weeks 15-17) to allow fewer than 10 points four times in a five-game span. Patrick Mahomes was an efficient 20-for-24 for 258 yards and two scores Sunday, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for two scores. The Chiefs are 22-10-1 ATS in their past 33 AFC West games.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers played without two of their most important players Sunday in receiver Keenan Allen (COVID) and safety Derwin James (hamstring) and lost running back Austin Ekeler in the third quarter (ankle) but had no trouble beating the New York Giants 37-21. Justin Herbert threw for 275 yards and three scores, including a spectacular 59-yard laser to Jalen Guyton that showed off Herbert’s arm strength. Herbert became the first player ever with at least 30 TD passes in each of his first two seasons, the second-youngest player to reach 60 career TD passes and fourth-youngest to reach 8,000 yards. It is thought that at least Allen will play Thursday. The Chargers are 4-10 ATS in their past 14 as home dogs.
