Chiefs vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 11 Odds

It’s the last international game of the 2019 NFL season as the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers face off from Mexico City on Monday night.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

A game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and a Los Angeles team on Monday night at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City might sound familiar … it should. The Chiefs were supposed to play the Rams there in Week 11 last year but it was moved to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum because field conditions were so terrible at Estadio Azteca. Some soccer games and heavy rains tore up the field, and many players were threatening to boycott the game for health reasons. The NFL really had no choice but to move it and always planned to return to Mexico City because it an agreement with the city through 2021.

This will be a Chargers home game. They probably don’t mind playing away from that little soccer stadium they are stuck in outside Los Angeles until the new stadium they will share with the Rams is ready in a couple of years. Chargers fans are often hugely outnumbered by visiting fans in the temporary home.

This is the seventh game in Chargers history they will play outside the USA and third in the regular season. Last year, they beat Tennessee in London. Kansas City once played a preseason game in Monterrey, Mexico, and this will be the Chiefs’ second-ever regular season international game. They beat the Detroit Lions at Wembley Stadium in London in 2015.

It’s the first of two meetings between the AFC West rivals with Kansas City hosting Los Angeles in Week 17. The teams finished with identical 12-4 records last year and split in the regular season – each winning on the road.

Kansas City is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs welcomed back quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes from a two-game injury absence on Sunday but lost 35-32 at Tennessee. Mahomes was fabulous in throwing for 446 yards and three touchdowns, but that Kansas City defence is a problem and it was gashed for 225 yards rushing. Ryan Tannehill hit Adam Humphries for the winning 23-yard touchdown pass with 23 seconds left. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker had a 52-yard field-goal attempt blocked as time expired. Starting guard Martinas Rankin left with a knee injury and his season is over. Running back LeSean McCoy was a surprise healthy scratch. The Chiefs are 2-5 ATS in their past seven games.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers tied for the AFC lead with 12 wins last regular season but at 4-6 might need to win out to make the playoffs again. They were slight favourites last Thursday in Oakland but lost 26-24, giving up the winning 18-yard touchdown run with about a minute left. Philip Rivers is likely a future Hall of Famer but he didn’t look like one with three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown. Two other picks were negated by penalties. Rivers also couldn’t move the ball a lick when the Bolts got the ball at their own 25 with 58 seconds remaining, all three timeouts left and only needing to get into field-goal range. Tom Brady almost always gets that done. It was the first time since they moved to Los Angeles that the Chargers had lost to the Raiders. L.A. is 6-2-1 ATS in its past nine following an ATS loss.
