All eight Chargers fans in LA are beaming with excitement over this year’s brand of Bolts. The team suffered the losses of promising young tight end Hunter Henry, former Pro Bowler Jason Verrett and newcomer safety Jaylen Watkins to injury this summer, but still have a great chance of tearing through the AFC West.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Los Angeles enters this game favoured by -3.5 because of their defence. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram take on a sophomore quarterback and an offensive line facing a few question marks. The 18th ranked line in football, according to Pro Football Focus, lost starter Zach Fulton in the offseason and decided to breed young talent rather than replace their vet.

While our NFL betting odds board has KC listed as underdogs, it is important to note that they are also 19-7 ATS in their last 26 matchups with divisional opponents.

Kansas City Chiefs

Thankfully, come week two the headlines will change and Patrick Mahomes can focus on football. For the opener though, on the road, against a stacked Chargers defence and with a new weapon in Sammy Watkins, all eyes will be on the new kid on the block. Fair or unfair, with Alex Smith being shipped to Washington, the weight of the world will be on the back of #15.

Another era is also set to begin for the Chiefs on the back end as well. Gone are the days of Tamba Hali. The Alex Hitchens show is now ready to take flight. The new linebacker signed a whopping five-year $45 million dollar deal with the reigning division champs, so yet another first impression will be on tap come Sunday.

Los Angeles Chargers

The story for LA will be resilience. Can they continue onward and upward coming off their 6-2 tear to end 2017?  Step one will be shaking off the aforementioned injuries. A need the team took little time in addressing once their preseason came to a close last week.

Legendary tight end Antonio Gates inked a one-year deal and will make his return to the Bolts, while on defense the team has opted to stick with the youthful approach. Whether it was the plan all along or not, rookie first rounder Derwin James will start at safety for the L-A-C.
