Chiefs vs. Broncos Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 7 Odds
It’s first place in the AFC West against last to kick off Week 7 around the NFL on Thursday night as reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Denver Broncos.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
A lot of people forget that Mahomes did start one game his 2017 rookie season for the Chiefs. He sat and watched Alex Smith until a meaningless Week 17 game in Denver when Coach Andy Reid decided to throw his rookie in there. The result didn’t matter because Kansas City was locked into its playoff seeding. Mahomes was solid enough, throwing for 284 yards with an interception – leading a drive that culminated in the winning field goal.
Last year, the Chiefs swept the Broncos but each by a touchdown or less. The game in Denver was a Monday night and Kansas City won 27-23. The Broncos led 23-13 midway through the fourth quarter. Mahomes threw for 304 yards and a touchdown to Travis Kelce with 6:27 left, and then Kareem Hunt (now gone) won it on a 4-yard TD run. It was the first time since 2004 that the Broncos blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead at home. They rushed for 159 yards and a TD from both Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman.
Kansas City has covered seven of the past 10 in the series. The over/under is 5-4-1 in those.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City hasn’t looked right in losing back-to-back games because Mahomes hasn’t looked right with an ankle injury. He did throw for 273 yards and three scores in Sunday’s 31-24 upset loss to Houston but completed just 19 of 35. Pro Bowl receiver Tyreek Hill returned from an injury absence and caught two of those scores. The Chiefs were without a handful of injured starters in receiver Sammy Watkins (hamstring), left tackle Eric Fisher (groin), left guard Andrew Wylie (ankle), defensive tackle Chris Jones (groin) and linebacker Anthony Hitchens (groin). Cornerback Kendall Fuller left with a hand injury.
Denver Broncos
Denver is 2-4 but could easily be 4-2 as it lost two games on a field goal as time expired. The Broncos were 16-0 home winners over Tennessee on Sunday. The Titans were held to 204 yards, saw their quarterbacks sacked seven times and had three turnovers. It was the first time Denver had seven sacks and three interceptions in a game since Sept. 16, 1984. The Broncos have held their past two opponents to 74 yards rushing combined. Top receiver Emmanuel Sanders missed the second half with a knee injury. It’s not a serious injury and he may play Thursday.
