The Bears are 3.5-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 35.0 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

There’s absolutely no way that Chicago would be favored over Kansas City if this game counted. The clubs don’t play this regular season. They last did during the 2019 season and the Chiefs won 26-3 in Chicago – the season Kansas City won the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes threw for 251 yards and two scores and rushed for a touchdown. Chicago’s quarterback then was Mitchell Trubisky, and he wasn’t very good. He’s now with Pittsburgh.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid is 42-45 in the preseason in his Hall of Fame career. Kansas City was 3-0 last year. It’s the head coaching debut of the Bears’ Matt Eberflus, the former Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are going to be Super Bowl contenders as long as Patrick Mahomes is healthy, although this will be his first game (if he plays) without All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. To help fill the void, the team signed JuJu Smith-Schuster (Steelers) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Packers) as well as drafted Western Michigan wideout Skyy Moore in the second round. In the 2021 preseason, Mahomes played one drive in Week 1, three drives in Week 2 and two drives in Week 3. One player earning raves in training camp is seventh-round rookie running back Isiah Pacheco out of Rutgers, who has been getting some run with the first-team offence. Former Bears coach Matt Nagy has rejoined Andy Reid in Kansas City, where he’s serving as the quarterbacks coach. Nagy will not be warmly welcomed Saturday. The Chiefs are 8-3 ATS in their past 11.

Chicago Bears

Most teams with new head coaches will play their starters in the preseason opener and new Bears coach Matt Eberflus has confirmed that will be the case Saturday: “The number of plays we’re still working on. But we do want them to get a good amount.” The Bears are going to be terrible this season as new general manager Ryan Poles has largely gutted the roster other than second-year quarterback Justin Fields, who might have the worst group of skill position talent and offensive linemen in the NFL around him. Two receiver additions, N’Keal Harry (ankle) and former Chief Byron Pringle, already are hurt. The Bears do have big plans for rookie third-round WR Velus Jones, who ran a 4.3 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. The team’s best defensive player, two-time All-Pro Roquan Smith, has demanded a trade because of a contract dispute. It’s going to be a long year in the Windy City, but exhibition games are different. Chicago is 5-1 ATS in its past six at home.
