Chiefs vs. 49ers Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction
It’s only Week 7 but this matchup feels like a big deal. There are many reasons for this. It’s a Super Bowl rematch. Kansas City is undefeated. San Francisco needs to get its season back on track. How much longer than the Chiefs find ways to win despite a roster decimated by injuries? Etc. It feels like both are coming off byes, but only KC genuinely had Week 6 off. San Francisco played last Thursday night.
Our NFL odds are hedging their bets. The 49ers are a favoured home team, but only at -1.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
There is no question that the recent head-to-head stories between these franchises are more unique than for most others. It’s not often that two of the last three meetings between rivals are Super Bowls. Such is the case here, with KC winning in February 2020 and then again in 2024. What’s more, there was a regular season clash in the Bay Area in 2022, Jimmy Garoppolo’s final season with the Niners. The Chiefs won the day, 44-23.
If Chiefs fans or those who like to bet on them have anything to complain about, it’s the 4-1 record against the spread. The lone hiccup was a 26-25 win over the Bengals in Week 2 when the team was favoured by 6.5. Come to think of it, the over-under needs to be handled delicately. The over is only 2-3, but that’s going to happen when KC racks up 354.6 yards per game but only scores 23.6.
Whether the 3-3 straight-up and ATS tallies are signs of a Super Bowl hangover or that 2024 simply isn’t going to be as rosy as years past, only time will tell. The offence is still humming given the 420.0 total yards and 27.0 points per contest. QB Brock Purdy is having a terrific season with 1,629 yards (second), although his 65.4 completion percentage puts him near the bottom of the top 20.

What other trick can head coach Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes pull out of their hats?
Remember, this team is 5-0 and made the Saints look rather average on Monday Night Football a fortnight ago. It is a testament to how well prepared this club is for anything that comes its way, be it a major opponent, injuries, or real and perceived controversies (RB Rashee Rice and kicker Harrison Butker had colourful offseasons). It doesn’t seem to matter with this group, and that’s why they are the best team even if the product on the field doesn’t always look like the best-oiled machine. Somehow Kareem Hunt, Juju Smith-Schuster, Travis Kelce, and Xavier Worthy will make the right plays.
It’s also high time we stop thinking about KC only as an offensive juggernaut. They give up 17.0 points a game (fifth-best) and only 305 total yards per match (ninth-best).
San Francisco 49ers
The 36-24 win in Seattle last Thursday night surely felt great. For one, the 49ers avoided going 2-4 at the time, which would have been shocking. Two, it was an important win against an NFC West rival. Third, said win over an NFC West rival means all is still to play for in the division.
There was also the matter of the Niners looking like, you know, the Niners. It was a good, well-rounded win in which the offence and defence played up to par. San Francisco continues to surprise people with players no one has ever heard of before. Rookie RB Isaac Guerendo burst onto the scene with 99 yards on 10 carries. “Veteran” Jordan Mason had 73 yards on nine touches, although he’s currently listed as questionable. The real Deebo Samuel stood up, corralling a trio of passes for 102 yards and a major.
Beating the Chiefs won’t make up for February’s disappointment, but it would re-energize what has been a stop-and-go season in San Francisco.
