The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off their most disappointing performance of the season and no longer hold their playoff destiny in their own hands. The Bolts barge into New Jersey to try and tackle the quarterback-deficient Jets.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Chargers opened as 7-point away favourites on the Sports Interaction NFL odds board with the total set at 42.5.

LA dropped to 7-7 straight up and 7-6-1 against the spread following its 30-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night. It was the fourth straight Chargers’ game to go under the total. LA is one of the best under bets in the league with an over/under record of 4-10 this season.

The Jets hung around against the Saints and ended up covering as 16.5-point underdogs despite a middling performance from quarterback Bryce Petty. Gang Green dropped to 5-9 SU but improved to 8-5-1 ATS.

Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles is hoping for good news on its star wideout Keenan Allen. The veteran playmaker was carted off the field during the final stages of the game against the Chiefs. Early reports are positive and head coach Anthony Lynn said the cart was used as a precaution. Allen leads the Bolts in catches (88), receiving yards (1197) and TD receptions (five).

The Chargers will trot out their fourth different kicker of the season when they take the field on Sunday against the Jets. The club claimed Nick Rose off waivers and dumped kicker Travis Coons. Rose made 10 of his 11 field goal attempts for the Washington Redskins earlier this season.

New York Jets

Petty completed just 19 of his 39 pass attempts for 179 yards, one touchdown and two picks against the Saints. Those numbers add up to an abysmal 4.5 yards per pass attempt. He completed 2 of 5 passes for zero yards in the Jets’ first three trips inside the red zone against the Saints.

Petty is expected to start against the Chargers only because Jets coaches are fearful the results would be even worse if they turned to third-stringer Christian Hackenberg.
