Chargers vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 15 Odds, Prediction
The NFL regular season only has a few weeks remaining, and one of the games this weekend will feature an AFC West divisional matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Both teams are in must-win situations, but for very different reasons. The Chiefs’ playoff hopes have all but evaporated, while the Chargers find themselves in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race.
Note that these two teams have already met this season. However, this matchup was back in Week 1 and played in Brazil. Nonetheless, the Chargers won this game by a score of 27-21.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Chiefs enter this one as 4.5-point favourites on the NFL odds despite their recent struggles. The market remains high on this Kansas City team, but that has led to them going 5-8 against the spread this season. However, they are 4-3 ATS at home.
As for the Chargers, they are 7-6 ATS this season but just 1-4 ATS on the road. That being said, the Chargers are 4-0 ATS against the AFC West, while the Chiefs are 1-2 ATS.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers may not be leading the AFC West, but they enter this game with a record of 9-4. They are coming off a win over the Philadelphia Eagles this past Monday, prevailing 22-19 in overtime. As it stands, the Chargers are the fifth seed in the AFC and are trailing the Denver Broncos by two games in the AFC West.
While not listed on the injury report, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert struggled throwing the ball against the Eagles. He is dealing with a hand injury which is something to remain wary of as the week progresses.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City’s season has not gone to plan, as they enter this game with a 6-7 record and are close to missing the playoffs. The Chiefs most recently lost to the Houston Texans in Week 14 by a score of 20-10. With the loss, Kansas City is now sitting as the 10th seed in the AFC. Their only chance is to win out and get some help.
Injuries for the Chiefs include OT Jawaan Taylor, OT Trey Smith and CB Trent McDuffie. All three players are questionable, but if they miss this game, the Chiefs could continue to struggle.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Chargers vs. Chiefs?
Despite the Chiefs being the home favourites, I will be targeting the Chargers to cover. As mentioned previously, the Chargers have beaten the Chiefs once this season. They are a solid team against the spread and are much more consistent than what we’ve seen from Patrick Mahomes and company. The Chargers’ defence is also proving to be one of the better groups in the NFL, as they forced five turnovers in their win against the Eagles.
Playing a solid defence has been one of the biggest issues for Mahomes and the Chiefs; therefore, with their playoff hopes dwindling, I like the Chargers to pull the road upset 24-21.
