NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Do you remember what you were doing in 2015? That was the last season the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t win the AFC West – the Denver Broncos did in Peyton Manning’s final NFL season. The Chiefs (11-1) would clinch their ninth straight division title Sunday night by beating the second-place Chargers (8-4) and also keep Kansas City in the driver’s seat for the AFC’s best record and lone first-round bye in the playoffs.

Even should Kansas City be upset on Sunday, it’s almost surely going to win the division regardless but would be caught by Buffalo for the AFC’s top seed. As of now, Los Angeles holds the AFC’s top wild-card spot as Coach Jim Harbaugh has worked wonders in his first season back in the NFL. The Chargers are -2500 to reach the postseason and that might win Harbaugh NFL Coach of the Year honours as he’s currently among the favourites at +550.

The Chiefs try for the season sweep of the Chargers as in Week 4 in Los Angeles, Kansas City was -6.5 and won 17-10 despite trailing 10-0 after a quarter. Samaje Perine had the game-winning 2-yard TD run with about six minutes left in the fourth. Both offences were pretty quiet, but Kansas City turned it over twice and Los Angeles didn’t give it away.

K.C. is 8-2 SU in the past 10 regular-season meetings but 4-5-1 ATS. The under has hit in three straight.

Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles finished with just five wins last year, which led to the firing of Coach Brandon Staley and hiring of Jim Harbaugh, and the Bolts are now one victory from cashing over their preseason betting win total of 8.5 following Sunday’s rather interesting 17-10 win in Atlanta. The Chargers had no right winning the game statistically with 187 total yards on a short week traveling across country. But they picked off Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins four times, one returned 61 yards for a touchdown by rookie cornerback Tarheeb Still – he had two picks overall. There is no way the Chargers win a game like that in most previous years, but Harbaugh has completely changed the culture there. Top running back JK Dobbins was out injured and will miss at least the next three games. He was having a terrific season in averaging 4.8 yards per carry with eight TDs. Los Angeles managed 56 yards rushing on 17 carries Sunday without him. It is 5-1 ATS in the past six games.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs continue to play with fire and continue to win. They trailed a terrible Raiders team 17-16 in the fourth quarter on Sunday in Kansas City, but Matthew Wright’s 32-yard field goal with just under 10 minutes to play proved the winner. Wright was KC’s third kicker already this season used due to injury and went 4-for-5 on field goals in his team debut. The Raiders had a chance to win on a late field goal but botched the snap on what would be the team’s final offensive play. Kansas City clinched a playoff spot for the 10th straight year, the second-longest streak in league history. The Chiefs now have nine wins through 12 total games this year by seven or fewer points, an NFL record. Their plus-54 point differential is the worst ever by a team starting 11-1 or better. It’s also their seventh straight season with at least 11 overall wins, tied for the second-longest streak in league annals. KC is on a six-game ATS losing streak, its longest skid under Andy Reid.
