Chargers vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction

As per years past, Mahomes and the Chiefs have the upper-hand through a month-and-a-half of football as they sit atop the AFC West at 5-1. It’s been five straight victories for Kansas City too after they suffered a close opening night loss to Detroit. The Chargers are back under .500 at 2-3, falling to Dallas 20-17 last week on Monday Night Football.
Kickoff at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium begins at 4:25 p.m. EDT with the Chiefs nearly a touchdown favourite on home field and the total at 52 on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Despite a lot of close games over the years, Kansas City’s owned the Chargers with 15 wins in their last 18 clashes over the past decade. But the Chargers have covered in five of their last six meetings with the Chiefs as these divisional battles typically go right down to the wire.
L.A.’s been solid when it comes to covering on the road too, going 8-4 ATS in their last 12 games away from home. But Arrowhead’s typically a different beast for the visitors, with the Chiefs winning nine of their last 10 home showings. Outside of a 41-10 drubbing of Chicago, Kansas City’s offence hasn’t looked too sharp on home field this season with outings of 20 and 19 points on home field before and after the Chicago win.
Los Angeles Chargers
The return of star running back/do-it-all offensive weapon Austin Ekeler didn’t provide the spark L.A. required to pull out a win last week. Ekeler, who missed three games with an ankle injury, rushed for 27 yards and hauled in another 35 through the air. The absence of injured receiver Mike Williams seems to be the bigger issue in L.A., as outside of Keenan Allen the Chargers are lacking pass-catching threats. Allen’s 519 receiving yards double any other Charger; Joshua Palmer’s 220 yards of production is the next-best from a healthy Charger.
The close primetime loss epitomizes what L.A. is: a team on the cusp that hasn’t found that extra gear to get over the hump. A road win against Kansas City would certainly be a huge stepping stone to getting over that hump, but right now L.A. hasn’t shown much reason why they wont fall to 2-4 after this weekend.
Kansas City Chiefs
NFL fans, meet Kansas City’s newest offensive weapon: Rashee Rice. The 2023 second-round pick has nearly 250 receiving yards on the year and is coming off a season-high 72 receiving yards last week. Outside of superstar Travis Kelce it’s been a pretty raw cast for Mahomes to work with on offence, and Rice along with running back Isiah Pacheco are undoubtedly two of the weapons stepping up on offence.
At the same time though, there’s been a turn of the pendulum as the Chiefs defence now ranks second in the NFL with 14.7 points allowed per game and sixth with 284 yards allowed per outing. A.K.A a defence that’s unfair when it’s combined with a team quarterbacked by Patrick Mahomes.
