The Cardinals were decimated by injuries to quarterback Carson Palmer and running back David Johnson and couldn’t overcome their absences; in Washington’s case, the struggles have had to do with an underwhelming defence allowing the most points per game in the NFL.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Washington is a healthy favorite in a battle between two teams that had been expected to be much stronger on defence. The Redskins are surrendering a whopping 26.5 points per game, while the Cardinals – long known for their vaunted defence – are allowing 24.4 points per contest, good for 25th out of 32 teams. Neither team has been a solid cover; Washington is 3-7 ATS in its last 10, while Arizona is 1-5 ATS in its previous six road contests.

A slight 56 percent majority are leaning toward the home side in Sports Interaction, while 73 percent are taking the over on the 43-point total as of Wednesday morning. Washington has been a sensational inter-conference over play, going 20-6 O/U in its last 26 games against NFC opponents. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have gone below the total in six of eight games against conference foes and are 1-4 O/U in their last five away from Arizona.

Arizona Cardinals

When Bruce Arians said a few weeks back that Blaine Gabbert had a shot at being the Cards’ quarterback in 2018, it was met with some snickers from fans and bettors alike. But Arians continues to laud his late-season starter, comparing his football IQ to that of Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. That said, the results suggest otherwise: Gabbert has thrown for just 897 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions in four games at the helm.

Washington Redskins

The question in the U.S. capital going into 2017 was whether Kirk Cousins could parlay a big season into an even bigger contract this offseason. Through 13 games, it’s hard to argue against the 29-year-old being one of the league’s top-paid signal callers. Cousins ranks eighth in passing yards (3,440), completion percentage (65.9) and touchdown passes (22) while adding a career-best 159 rushing yards and scoring three touchdowns on the ground.
