Going into their Week 4 matchup, the Arizona Cardinals’ and Carolina Panthers’ locker rooms should be in two vastly different moods. Last week Arizona (2-1) lost as a sizable favourite, and Carolina (1-2) won as a sizable underdog.

Redemption is on the mind of Kyler Murray and the Cardinals while Teddy Bridgewater, Mike Davis, and the Panthers are looking to prove their no free-pass without their star running back.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Carolina’s enjoyed recent success against the Cardinals, winning seven of their last 10 meetings and covering the spread in six of those. But don’t put a ton of stock into this, as Sunday will be the first time Murray and Bridgewater go head-to-head. Former Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera also won’t be scheming up a game plan against Arizona this time around.

The over’s set at 52, which might be influenced by some recent trends. Exhibit A is the Panthers going over in seven of their last nine and in all of their last five against the NFC West, and the Cardinals seeing the over hit in eight of their last nine against the NFC South.

Oddsmakers have Arizona as road favourites with the line at -3.5.

Arizona Cardinals

A loss to the Detroit Lions gave Arizona a bit of a reality check after storming out to a 2-0 record. Unfortunately for Arizona, their sophomore quarterback struggled in Week 3 and threw three interceptions. Murray also had his lowest total yardage of the season, but his favourite target went off again.

DeAndre Hopkins now his two double-digit catches and 100-yard receiving games in three weeks, leading the entire NFL in both receptions and receiving yards. Carolina currently ranks 24th against the pass, so Hopkins may be in store for another grand performance.

All-Pro safety Budda Baker, who played with a UCL tear in his thumb last Sunday, had surgery this week that will likely keep him on the sidelines in Week 4.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers will still be without Christian McCaffrey in their backfield, which wasn’t an issue last week as they scored 18 points in the first half against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was 2015 fourth-round pick Mike Davis instead in Carolina’s backfield, and Davis balled out with 91 yards and two touchdowns last week.

Carolina’s Week 3 win was Matt Rhule’s first in the NFL, and the Panthers’ first in 329 days.

The Panthers were +4 in the turnover differential category last week and now stand at +2 on the season. With teams scoring 27 points per game on Rhule’s club, takeaways have come in handy. Robby Anderson’s has too, as the free-agent addition is averaging 92.7 receiving yards per game which ranks sixth in the NFL this season.
