Can the Arizona Cardinals get back on the winning path in Week 5? They’re a sizable favorite on the road at the New York Jets, who have lost all four of their games so far.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The over is 5-1 in the Cardinals past six game in Week 5 and 6-2 in their last eight games when coming in as the road favorite. Arizona is 2-0-2 ATS in their past four road games and 7-3-2 in their last 12 games overall.

On the other hand, the under is 5-1 in the Jets last six games overall and 4-1 in their last five home games. New York is also 4-1 ATS in their last five games when coming in as the underdog but are just 1-5 ATS in their last six October games.

Arizona Cardinals

After such a successful start to the season, the Cardinals have now dropped their last two games against the Detroit Lions and the Carolina Panthers. They seem far too inconsistent to start marking them as contenders, especially since their two losses came against teams that they were winless at the time they faced them. In their most recent loss, Kyler Murray threw for only 130 yards but had three touchdowns and no interceptions, an improvement from the three-interception game he had the week before against the Lions.

However, it took him 24 completions just to get to the 133 total passing yards, which is not a good sign for their passing offense heading into this next game. Their rushing attack didn’t get going either as Kenyan Drake took 13 carries and totaled only 35 yards. Murray did use his legs effectively and that was on display this week when he ran for 78 yards on six attempts. Overall, they need to start taking some chances down the field to get Murray going. The good news is they face the Jets this week, which were picked apart by rookie Brett Rypien is his first NFL start last week. They Cardinals offense should cook this week.

New York Jets

The Jets look downright awful so far this season. Things could get worse as young quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to miss this matchup against the Cardinals due to a shoulder injury. Darnold had been playing about as well as he could have despite the circumstances so far, as he threw for 230 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions and added on 84 rushing yards, which includes his huge 46-yard touchdown. Their rushing attack also never got going and it doesn’t help that Le’Veon Bell is still out with a nagging hamstring injury.

For their defense, the only positive to take away from their last game was cornerback Pierre Desir, who picked off Brett Rypien twice in last week’s contest, taking one of those to the house for six. Besides Desir, they should never have allowed a third string quarterback to score 37 points even while throwing three interceptions. They have been terrible all season long and are primed to be torn apart by Murray and company as they hope to get back on track.
