NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Tampa Bay Buccanneers at Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Pittsburgh Steelers -112 -2
  • Tampa Bay Buccanneers -107 +2

Historically, Pittsburgh has a heavy all-time lead in this series, with a 75-58-1 record against Tampa Bay. That said, this Steelers team looks very different in 2019. Gone are Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, who were incredible players on the field for the Steelers, but brought too much drama to the team behind the scenes.

The Steelers made some impressive offseason moves to fill the void so oddsmakers will be paying attention to the up-and-comers on the bench to see if this is still a team that can compete.

The Bucs have not finished a preseason above .500 since going 3-1 in 2008. The Steelers haven’t lost a preseason since going 1-3 in 2016.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

At the beginning of the 2018 season, the Bucs had everyone talking when they beat the Saints and the Eagles to start their year 2-0 under the great play of Ryan Fitzpatrick.  It wasn’t the shape of things to come, however, and in week 3 the Bucs fell to the Steelers in a loss that started a slide that left them with a 5-11 season record. Head coach Dirk Koetter got the boot, and Bruce Arians was brought in to replace him.

Some thrilling players will make their first appearance in Bucs uniforms, including first-round pick Devin White, a linebacker from LSU who should bolster the Tampa Bay defence. Also debuting as a Buc is free agent acquisition Ndamukong Suh, a divisive player who’s capable of making huge plays.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a very mediocre season in 2018, going 9-6-1 and missing the playoffs for the first time in 5 years. So what did they do to right the ship? They cleaned up the drama in the locker room, and said goodbye to two all-stars who were more of a headache than they were worth.  The organization traded away Antonio Brown and saw Le’Veon Bell join to Jets in free agency.

During the draft, the Steelers had their eye on Devin Bush, and they traded up to make sure they got him. The explosive linebacker could very well bring the Steeler defense back to it’s former glory, alongside T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree.

We know that we won’t be seeing 37-year-old quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the field on Friday. Joshua Dobbs has gotten the start and he’ll be backed up by Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges.
