The Lamar Jackson era is officially underway. Joe Flacco is healthy but Baltimore will turn once again to its rookie to guide the team from under centre.

The next big test for Lamar Jackson? Keep the Ravens’ playoff hopes alive by beating Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Bucs were one of the best Over bets in the league to start the season but oddsmakers have caught up to them. After starting the season with a 7-1 Over mark, the Under has now cashed in four of Tampa Bay’s last five games.

T-Bay is coming off a 28-14 home loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Bucs failed to cover the spread as 10-point underdogs. The result drops the club’s ATS record to 5-7-1 on the campaign.

Don’t expect the Bucs to snap their 10-year playoff drought. Tampa Bay needs to win out just to finish with a .500 record. Sports Interaction lists Tampa Bay at +50,000 to win the Super Bowl. That means a $100 bet on the Bucs would earn bettors a cool 50K if Winston and Co. pulled off a miracle run.

Things aren’t as bleak for Baltimore backers. The Ravens find themselves among a group of teams in the AFC fighting for the final playoff spot. Baltimore is coming off a 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs but the squad covered the spread as a 6.5-point road underdog.

The Ravens are 7-6 straight up and against the spread but they’ve covered the spread in three straight games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs blew a beautiful opportunity to take down Drew Brees and Co. last weekend. The Saints trailed Tampa Bay 14-3 at halftime but outscored their host 25-0 in the second half. Winston was a big part of the meltdown over the final two quarters. His second half numbers – if you rule out his meaningless stats collected on the final drive when the game was already out of reach – were 3-for-12 for 34 yards.

There’s a good chance Winston and head coach Dirk Koetter will both be looking for new jobs this offseason.

Baltimore Ravens

Jackson’s ability to run the football is having a positive impact on Baltimore’s attack. The former Heisman Trophy winner is averaging 83 yards on the ground over the last four games and he’s picked up two rushing scores as well.

The Ravens’ biggest weapon isn’t on the offensive side of the ball though. Jon Harbaugh’s stopper unit ranks among the league best in total defence, first downs allowed per game and scoring defence.
