Jamesis Winston, Bucs, 2019

Jameis Winston will be missing Receiver Mike Evans this Sunday, but he'll have plenty of other targets as he tries to hit 30 touchdown passes on the season.

It’s anyone’s guess which version of Jameis Winston will show up from one game – or quarter – to another. And that could prove especially true Sunday as Winston brings an injured throwing hand into Tampa Bay’s Week 15 encounter with host Detroit. Winston’s health status will be a major discussion point for fans and bettors alike, with the Bucs installed as road favourites against a reeling Lions team that has dropped six consecutive games.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Lions have become quite accustomed to being home underdogs – this will mark the sixth time this season – but they’ve actually fared well from a covers perspective, going 3-2 ATS in their first five instances. And that’s a whole lot better than what the Buccaneers have to offer as a road favourite, having gone just 5-14 ATS in their previous 19 games in that scenario. Tampa has also covered just twice in its last 12 visits to the Motor City.

This game carries a total of 44, which seems low given both teams’ recent prevailing trends and should generate red-hot interest in the Over. The Buccaneers have exceeded the total in 10 of their last 11 games and are 5-1 to the Over in their last six games away from Raymond James Stadium. That second item fits perfectly with the Lions’ recent home pattern; they’ve gone 5-0 O/U in their last five games at Ford Field, with just one producing fewer than 57 points.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Winston’s status isn’t the only potential offensive wrinkle the Buccaneers are facing Sunday. They’ll be without star receiver Mike Evans, who suffered a severely strained hamstring in last week’s wild 38-35 win over the Indianapolis Colts and was placed on injured reserve. In addition to No. 2 Chris Godwin being fed targets, look for increased contributions from Breshad Perriman and Justin Watson, who combined for eight catches and 129 yards last week.

Detroit Lions

To their credit, the Lions had been largely competitive in the first five games of their current losing skid, with none of their defeats coming by more than seven points, But it was a different story last time out, as the Lions put up just 231 total yards in a 20-7 loss in Minnesota that dropped them to 3-9-1 for the year, and put them on the brink of their second consecutive 10-loss season; the Lions had gone the previous five seasons without achieving that feat.
