The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons might not have playoff positioning to jockey for this week, but they both have questions to answer as they square off Sunday afternoon in an NFC South encounter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The visiting Buccaneers will use their final six games to help determine whether Jameis Winston is the answer at QB, while the Falcons will be examining whether any of their depth running backs are worthy of a larger role.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Atlanta has both momentum and home-field advantage on its side here, having won back-to-back games in impressive fashion over the division-rival Saints and Panthers. But the Saints have largely been a terrible cover option against lesser competition, having gone just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 vs. teams below .500. That trend could see a reversal this weekend, with the Buccaneers having gone six consecutive games without a cover.

Plenty of offence is expected in this one, with the total set on the high end by NFL standards at 51.5. And as reliable as Tampa Bay has been when it comes to not covering, it has been an even greater Over lock, having surpassed the total in each of its past eight games. That trend will run head-on with an Atlanta team that has recorded four straight unders, with the past two games producing 35 or fewer points. The Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Atlanta.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Winston has shown flashes of being the quarterback the Buccaneers can see themselves riding into a return to the postseason. But mistakes have been plentiful, and patience among fans and bettors is not. Winston has thrown a league-high 19 interceptions on the season, and those picks have played a major role in the Bucs falling four or fewer points short of a cover in four of their past six games. The Tampa defence has also struggled, allowing 31.3 points per game.

Atlanta Falcons

If the Falcons are going to extend their winning streak and keep their dim playoff hopes alive, they’ll almost certainly need to focus on exposing Tampa’s dismal secondary. Fortunately for Atlanta, that plays right up its alley: The Falcons come into this one with the No. 3 passing offence in the league (300.3 yards per game) while the run game has sputtered to just 74.5 yards per contest. These teams will face off again in their regular-season finale.
