The final Monday night game of the NFL regular season is an important one from the AFC North as the Cleveland Browns visit the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Browns are 3-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 41.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Normally, this would be the final Monday night game of the entire season, but back in October ESPN signed a deal with the NFL to show a Monday night game during the wild-card round of the playoffs.

This might be the final home game ever for Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, a lock future Hall of Famer. Big Ben is expected to retire, and frankly the Steelers would prefer he did. Roethlisberger loves beating the Browns because they passed over the Miami of Ohio star with the No. 6 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft and instead took Miami (Fla.) tight end Kellen Winslow II, obviously a massive mistake. Big Ben went 11th to Pittsburgh and is the last QB from that class still playing.

In Week 8, Roethlisberger improved to 24-3-1 as a starter vs. Cleveland with a 15-10 victory. He threw for 266 yards and a TD, and rookie Najee Harris rushed for 91 yards and a score. The Steelers didn’t have their placekicker for the second half due to injury and the Browns kept shooting themselves in the foot. It wasn’t an entertaining game.

Pittsburgh is 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings.

Cleveland Browns

Cleveland (7-8) is last in the AFC North but still could win that division – or miss the post-season entirely. To win the division, the Browns would have to win-out, have the Bengals lose-out and have the Ravens and Steelers each lose once. Obviously, Cleveland can hand Pittsburgh that one loss in this game and the Browns close at home vs. Cincinnati. The Browns are eliminated with a loss Monday. They have disappointed for a myriad of reasons this year, but QB Baker Mayfield has been perhaps the biggest one. He had four picks in a Christmas loss in Green Bay. To be fair to the former Heisman winner, he has been banged up nearly all season. The special teams have largely been a disaster. Cleveland is 2-7 ATS in its past nine as a road favourite.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh (7-7-1) also could win the division or miss the post-season entirely. To win the North, the Steelers must beat the Browns and then win at the Ravens in Week 18 while having Cincinnati lose Week 17 vs. Kansas City and Week 18 in Cleveland. Because of that tie, the Steelers would win a tiebreaker at 9-7-1 over any 9-8 team in the conference. They would be eliminated with a loss Monday. Pittsburgh comes off a 36-10 blowout loss in Kansas City, the third time in their past five games the Steelers have trailed by at least 23 points. They have been outscored 97-9 in the first half of their last five games have been held without a first-half touchdown for five straight games — the first time that’s happened since 1940. Ben Roethlisberger is a legend, but the team will not want him back in 2022. He has thrown for only 307 yards with one TD over the past two games combined. The Steelers are 18-6-2 ATS in their past 26 as home dogs. I think the emotion of likely Big Ben’s final home game is enough for them to win this one.
