The Jaguars will be eager to see what No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence does in his first taste of professional football action, though he won’t start Saturday. Cleveland, meanwhile, looks to build on an impressive 2020 season under reigning NFL Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Most home teams are three-point favourites (or close to it) in Week 1 of the exhibition season, but oddsmakers are a little less optimistic about the Jaguars’ chances of victory. Jacksonville was a disaster the last time the NFL had a preseason, losing all four games in 2019 while failing to cover any of them and finishing with just 29 total points. Cleveland has been a bettor’s best friend in recent preseason games, going an identical 10-2 SU and ATS in its past 12.

The Browns and Bengals are staring at a total of 37.5, tied for the third-highest number on the Week 1 preseason schedule. And there’s money to be made on the Under if Cleveland can extend its incredible O/U run, during which it has gone 3-16-1 over its previous 20 exhibition contests. Jacksonville finished 3-1 to the Under during the 2019 preseason but has surpassed the total in five of its last eight exhibition games at home.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns don’t have much competition brewing at any of their main skill positions. Baker Mayfield is the unquestioned No. 1 option at QB after throwing for more than 3,500 yards with 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 2020. The running back tandem of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt is back after combining for more than 1,900 rushing yards and 18 TDs on the ground. And Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. will continue to lead the receiving corps.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Gardner Minshew will get the start at quarterback for the Jaguars, who play their first game under new head coach Urban Meyer. But Minshew might only see one or two series before likely ceding to Lawrence, who comes to Jacksonville following an incredible collegiate career. The Clemson standout completed 66.6 percent of his pass attempts while racking up 90 touchdown passes against just 17 interceptions in three years with the Tigers.
