With these teams playing in different conferences, there’s obviously very little history to fall back on. They haven’t met since Week 11 of the 2020 season, which ended in a 22-17 home win for Cleveland. Then rookie Jalen Hurts was No. 2 on the Eagles’ depth chart behind Carson Wentz, while Baker Mayfield was still playing for the Browns.

All signs point to fading Cleveland this week as they are just 1-4 against the spread for the season and they’ve failed to cover in three straight games. It’s been a little better for Philadelphia as they’ve alternated ATS wins and losses in 2024.

Both teams have played the Under twice this year, but going back to last season, the Browns have hit the Over in nine of their last 13 games and the Eagles have hit the Over in six of their last seven at home.

History says Philadelphia will win this game. The Eagles are 11-2 straight up in their last 13 games against AFC opponents and they are also 9-1 SU in their last 10 games played in the month of October. On the flip side, Cleveland is 5-13 SU in their last 18 matchups against NFC teams and they’ve lost seven of their last 10 October games.

Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson continues to prove Cleveland made a huge mistake when they signed him to an unprecedented fully guaranteed contract two years ago. Watson finished with a season-low 125 passing yards and one touchdown last week, failing to hit the 200-yard passing mark for the fifth straight game. The three-time Pro Bowler was sacked seven times, bringing his season total to an NFL-high 26, which is eight more sacks than the next closest quarterback.

Despite Watson looking like a completely different quarterback from his time in Houston, head coach Kevin Stefanski has insisted he won’t bench Watson in favour of Jameis Winston. It’s a baffling decision. Watson has a QBR below 30 in four of five starts, his 4.8 yards per attempt is the second-lowest in the league and he’s on pace to be sacked more than any other quarterback in NFL history. In 17 career games with the Browns, Watson has thrown just 19 touchdown passes while his passer rating has dropped from 104.5 in Houston to 79.5 in Cleveland. Let’s just say, the Browns’ quarterback curse continues.

Philadelphia Eagles

Head coach Nick Sirianni is on the hot seat in Philadelphia and a loss to the Browns this week could cost him his job. But, with plenty of rest from last week’s bye, Sirianni and the Eagles have no excuse not to smash Cleveland. Hurts had a tough outing two weeks ago, throwing for a season-low 158 yards and one touchdown. He was also sacked six times, but he managed to add 20 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.

Signing running back Saquon Barkley in the off-season continues to be a massive win for the Eagles. Barkley is averaging a ridiculous 108.8 rushing yards per game and he has five total TDs in four games. Between Barkley and Hurts, Philadelphia has the fifth-ranked rushing attack in the NFL, which will be significant this week considering Cleveland has a bottom-10 rush defence.
