Broncos vs. Redskins Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction
Washington might not be ready to unveil its latest running back acquisition, but it’s definitely prepared to unveil its incredible home cover streak as it hosts the Denver Broncos on Friday in Week 3 exhibition action. Washington is on an unfathomable run at FedEx Field during the pre-season, having gone 14-3 both straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) in its past 17 exhibition games there. And Denver might be hard pressed to put a dent in that run given how it has played so far.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
You can’t put much stock in one pre-season result when evaluating the line for the next game, but it’s not hard to see why Washington comes into this one as the favorite. Last week’s 15-13 triumph over the visiting New York Jets marked the 11th time in the last 13 home pre-season games that Washington has held an opponent below 20 points. No such luck for the Broncos, who have coughed up 66 points through their first two exhibition games.
It is worth noting, however, that the Broncos have covered each of their previous seven road exhibition games dating back to 2014, while limiting opponents to fewer than nine points per game on average over that span. From a totals perspective, Denver has gone 1-3 O/U in its last four road games with a total of 40 or higher, while Washington has gone below the total in four straight home exhibition games and 11 of its last 14 pre-season tilts in Landover.
Denver Broncos
Denver’s quarterback alignment in Washington could tell bettors plenty about how the team plans to set up its Week 1 depth chart. Case Keenum is expected to see plenty of action in the first half, while Chad Kelly – who has been seeing first-team reps in practice this week – should take over for most of the second half and might get the start in the team’s exhibition finale. This is the Broncos’ first trip to Landover in the pre-season.
Washington Redskins
Washington added running back Adrian Peterson this week in an attempt to add depth following a season-ending injury to rookie Derrius Guice. Yet, while head coach Jon Gruden says he’d like Peterson to see the field Friday night, that’s far from a certainty given the 33-year-old’s rust from inactivity. Washington will need someone to step up in Guice’s absence if it hopes to convert its +350 odds to reach the post-season.
