COVID-19 issues put the game in jeopardy, but with the Patriots getting the all-clear in the days leading up to game time, the NFL decided simply to reschedule for Monday night at 5pmET.
After some uncertainty surrounding whether the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots, the AFC rivals will play a rare Monday evening game at Gillette Stadium. COVID-19 issues put the game in jeopardy, but with the Patriots getting the all-clear in the days leading up to game time, the NFL decided simply to reschedule rather than postpone – giving the Patriots an opportunity to atone for last week’s 26-10 clunker at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos haven’t been known as an offensive power since Peyton Manning was with the team in the mid-2010s. But Denver is coming off its most impressive performance of the season in last Thursday’s 37-28 slugfest win over the New York Jets. Melvin Gordon had 107 yards on the ground while Tim Patrick led the receiving corps with 113 yards and a touchdown. It was the first time in 70 games that Denver had a 100-yard rusher and receiver in the same game.
New England Patriots
The Patriots will take the field this week, but who will set up under center remains a mystery. Cam Newton remains questionable after he missed last week’s loss to the Chiefs following a positive COVID-19 test. He hasn’t practised but is asymptomatic and has remained in contact with the team via Zoom meetings. If he doesn’t go, the Patriots will likely roll with Jarrett Stidham over Brian Hoyer, who struggled mightily last week before being benched.
