This is a strange game insofar as questions abound regarding Cincinnati, the team that not so long ago emerged from the AFC to play in the Super Bowl, whereas New York is coming off a victory and was not mocked for once.

Zac Taylor’s Bengals currently sit as 4.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds. The predicted total points are estimated at 45.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Ohio squad and the Gang Green have squared off five times since 2010. Few would be surprised to learn that Cincinnati has claimed 3 victories. Surprisingly the most recent defeat came last year when the Bengals were firing on all cylinders. The date? Oct. 31. Spooky.

Regarding the spread, this matchup is a funny one. The Bengals were a fantastic 14-7 (including playoffs) ATS in 2021. So far this year? They’re 0-2, and both failures are seen as embarrassing by many fans and experts.

The Jets were 6-11 ATS last season and have started 1-1 in 2022. Nothing super encouraging, although the Jets often aren’t very good, so one needs to proceed with caution.

Cincinnati Bengals

What in the world? The Queen City boys open the season against a vulnerable Steelers team in Week 1 and lose a wild one. Then they visit a considerably weakened Dallas club in Week 2 and come up short again.

How can a team with such high aspirations start its campaign so ignominiously? Well, as much as fans may not want to hear this, all those off-season moves to spruce up the offensive line and protect QB Joe Burrow have not provided the desired results. The 3rd-year pro has been tackled for losses 13 times in 2 games. The pressure is on, literally, every time the ball is snapped. With that not only come QB hits and sacks but mistakes. He’s thrown 4 INTs in 2 games. He threw a total of 5 in 10 games during his shortened rookie campaign in 2020. A 5.5 yards per pass play average makes winning football games difficult, even when one’s opponent is Cooper Rush.

Key Injuries: TE Devin Asiasi (questionable)

New York Jets

And now for something completely different…a Jets win, which was sparked by an aging Joe Flacco. True story!

Trailing 30-17 with barely a couple of minutes left in Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns, in the dog pound no less, Jets fans were wondering what else could go wrong. That is, until everything when right. A brilliant 66-yard bomb from Flacco to WR Corey Davis was followed by a remarkable onside kick recovery, and for the coup de grâce a 15-yard TD connection between Flacco and Garett Wilson with 22 seconds left.

It’s difficult to tell how much should be extrapolated from such an improbable win. For most of Week 2, New York looked almost as poor as it did in Week 1, perhaps marginally better. But showing the fight they did would put a smile on anyone’s face, except for Browns fans.

Key Injuries: TE C.J. Uzomah, QB Zach Wilson (out)
