The Chiefs opened the NFL schedule on Thursday Night Football with a narrow 27-20 win over Baltimore, extending their current straight up win streak to seven games since Christmas Day last year. Conversely, the Bengals saw the struggles that plagued them during a winless preseason continue in Week 1, dropping a 16-10 decision to the visiting New England Patriots while pegged as 7.5-point chalk.

The Chiefs are listed as 5.5-point home favourites on the NFL Week 2 odds, while the Bengals trail as +200 moneyline underdogs, and the total is pegged at 47.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Chiefs have flipped the script on a decades-long run of futility against Cincinnati with wins in each of their past two meetings. After punching their ticket to Super Bowl 57 with a slim 23-20 win over the Bengals in the AFC championship game two seasons ago, KC followed up with 25-17 home victory in Week 17 last season, marking the first time they have tallied consecutive head-to-head victories since 1986.

Low scoring has been commonplace when these AFC rivals meet, with the UNDER paying out in 13 of 16 clashes since 1988, and each of their past five meeting have been settled by just a single score. While the Chiefs have been a reliable bet, covering in every game during their current 7-0 run, the Bengals have produced uneven results, covering the spread just once in their past five outings and going just 3-6-1 against the spread in their past 10 overall. However, Cincinnati has impressed while winning outright in five of their past eight while pegged as underdogs by seven or more points.

Cincinnati Bengals

It proved to be a massively disappointing return to action for quarterback Joe Burrow, whose injury woes contributed to the Bengals’ slide out of playoff contention last season. Indeed, concerns linger over just how well “Joe Cool” has recovered from last year’s hand injury after he connected for just 164 passing yards and no scores in the loss. Burrow’s lack of protection by a porous offensive line has been a concern since he arrived in the NFL, and last week was no exception, with the Cincy pivot getting sacked three times. Adding to those concerns is the questionable status of receiver Tee Higgins, who missed Wednesday’s practice due to a hamstring injury and the off-field distractions caused by Ja’Marr Chase’s ongoing contract stalemate. Last week’s tough outing is reflected on the NFL Week 2 player props, where Burrow is just a +120 bet to toss OVER 1.5 touchdown passes.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs got the bounces and the calls in last week’s season-opening win over the Ravens including a video review that went their way on a Baltimore touchdown with no time on the clock that would have forced overtime. It was a seesaw battle all night long, with the Chiefs eking out the win despite getting out-gained by almost 100 yards and racking up just a little over 26 minutes possession in this rematch of last season’s AFC title game. Patrick Mahomes tossed for 291 yards on the night, along with a scoring pass to rookie Xavier Worthy, who compiled 47 yards in his NFL debut. However, Mahomes also tossed a pick for the third time in as many games and has now compiled nine interceptions over his past nine games, fuelling -130 odds that he will throw another on one Sunday. Worthy also ran for one of two Chiefs rushing scores on the night, but overall the ground game produced just 72 yards, but could be ready to bust out against a Bengals squad that surrendered 170 rushing yards last week.
