The Minnesota Vikings host a divisional opponent for the final time this regular season when the 2-2 Chicago Bears coming into town for a Week 5 clash Sunday afternoon. At 3-1, the Vikings sit atop the NFC North division and are returning from London this week after a 28-25 win over New Orleans. Chicago dropped a disappointing contest at the New York Giants, coming up short 20-12.

Neither club has either scored or allowed over 30 points in an appearance this season. Both teams are neck-and-neck, allowing around 20 points per game. The one big difference is Chicago’s offence, which ranks 31st in the NFL with 16 points per game, while Minnesota’s right in the middle of the pack with 21.5 points per game.

Kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium starts at 1 p.m. EDT. Minnesota is a 7-point favourite to win. The over-under sits at 44.0 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These clubs have split the most recent 10 battles with neither team averaging over 20 points a game. Minnesota swept their season series a year ago, winning 17-9 on the road and 31-17 at home. Week 5 is the first of these teams’ two regular season meetings in 2022, with the final one going down in Week 18 at Chicago.

So far both teams are sub .500 against the spread, with Minnesota having a single win ATS and Chicago going 1-2-1. The under is 2-0 in Chicago’s two road games this season, but it’s the over that’s 5-2 in the last seven Bears–Vikings contests played in Minnesota. The over is 9-3 in the Vikings’ last 12 outings overall.

Chicago Bears

Chicago yet again failed to crack the 20-point barrier in Week 4 as Justin Fields’ offence registered 12 points on 304 yards of offence. Fields hit double-digit completions for the first time this season, going 11 for 22 while throwing a season-high 174 passing yards. Through four starts this season, Fields has 471 passing yards to go with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

There’s a chance running back David Montgomery (ankle, knee) returns to action in Week 5 after missing last week. Montgomery’s replacement, Khalil Herbert, rushed for 77 yards on 19 carries last week, contributing to a Bears offence that ranks third with 177 rushing yards a game.

Minnesota Vikings

A 12-point fourth quarter was just enough for Minnesota to hold on for a win last week. Greg Joseph’s 47-yard field goal with 24 seconds remaining ended up as the game’s final points. Kirk Cousins passed for 273 yards in the win, with 147 of those yards going to Justin Jefferson on 10 receptions. Jefferson added a three-yard touchdown run and is now fifth in the NFL with 393 receiving yards through a month of football.

Lewis Cine, a 2022 first round draft pick, suffered a season-ending leg injury in the win. Linebacker Za’Darius Smith ended up suiting up after dealing with a knee injury all week. Aside from Cine and Smith, the Vikings enter Week 5 quite healthy.
