Bears vs. Lions Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
Chicago and Detroit are both looking to bounce back from season-opening losses, as the Bears lost to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football after the Lions came up short against the Green Bay Packers.
As division rivals, these two teams obviously have an extensive head-to-head history. Detroit has won five of the last six matchups dating back to the start of the 2022 season.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Lions come in as considerable -6 favourites on the NFL odds, making the Bears +6 underdogs. On the moneyline, the home side is -275 and the visitors are +220. The game total is 47.5 points, with the Over priced at -105 and the Under checking in at -115.
There is not much to speak of in terms of head-to-head betting trends. Both squads are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 meetings, and the Over/Under is also an even 5-5 in that stretch. The Bears are 2-4 ATS in their last six overall, dating back to last season.
Chicago Bears
Everything was going so well at Soldier Field through three quarters on Monday. Chicago led 17-6 only to give up three consecutive touchdowns to Minnesota en route to an eventual 27-24 loss. The Bears watched first-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy torch them for three TDs in the final frame, two through the air and the last one on a 14-yard run.
Aside from wins and losses, this year in Chicago will be judged primarily by QB Caleb Williams’ development under new head coach Ben Johnson. Early returns are mixed. Williams accounted for two touchdowns (one passing and one rushing) and did not turn the ball over, but he completed only 21 of 35 attempts and averaged a mere 6.0 yards per completion.
Detroit Lions
Detroit never looked like it had much of a chance in Green Bay last week. The Packers jumped out to a 10-0 first-quarter lead, and the margin did not get closer than seven points the rest of the way. During his team’s 27-13 setback, quarterback Jared Goff completed 31 of 39 passes but finished with only 225 yards, was picked off once to go along with one touchdown and got sacked four times. Jahmyr Gibbs gained an anemic 50 yards from scrimmage despite getting 19 touches (nine rushes and 10 receptions).
There are major questions in Detroit following the loss of both coordinators. Johnson had been Detroit’s OC, while former DC Aaron Glenn is now head coach of the New York Jets. The Lions new offensive coordinator, John Morton, is already under fire.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Bears vs. Lions?
The Bears lost by only three points when they visited Ford Field last year. They got beaten by just five points in Detroit in 2023. Even though the Lions have been winning more often than not in recent seasons, this matchup has been relatively competitive.
Sunday projects to be more of the same. Chicago actually looked good for three quarters in Week 1, whereas Detroit underwhelmed the whole way – albeit against an outstanding Green Bay team. The Lions should win in front of their home fans, but it may not be easy.
