The Chicago Bears haven’t won the NFC North Division since 2010 but could take a big step toward that goal with a win Sunday at the not very good New York Giants.

The Bears lead the Minnesota Vikings by 1.5 games in the NFC North but it’s really 2.5 because Chicago currently holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. If the Bears win here, that race could be all but over because the Vikings are underdogs later Sunday in New England.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Giants aren’t playing for anything other than pride and perhaps the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft (right now, Big Blue would pick No. 5). In fact, the franchise needs to consider starting rookie Kyle Lauletta at quarterback soon because it’s clear Eli Manning isn’t in the team’s plans for 2019. Maybe Lauletta is the answer, but he needs to get on the field to find out. It’s not like there isn’t some talent on that offence with running back Saquon Barkley, a top candidate for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and receiver Odell Beckham Jr., one of the game’s most electrifying players. But it all starts with the quarterback.

It’s the first meeting between these teams since November 2016, a 22-16 home Giants win. Manning threw for 227 yards and two scores.  Jay Cutler was still Chicago’s quarterback then. That Bears team was lousy (finished 3-13) and the Giants good (11-5 and a wild-card team). The script has been flipped in 2018.

The road team has covered seven of the past eight in the series.

Chicago Bears

The Bears are just completed a three games in 12 days stretch, all inside the division, at 3-0 following a 23-16 win in Detroit – Chicago’s fifth straight victory overall. Starting QB Mitchell Trubisky was held out with a minor shoulder injury, and Chase Daniel got a rare NFL start and played well in completing 27 of 37 for 230 yards and two scores. Trubisky is expected back vs. the Giants.

The Bears have largely been winning with defence and that unit was terrific again. Chicago picked off Matthew Stafford twice in the fourth quarter. Eddie Jackson returned one 41 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with six minutes to play, and Kyle Fuller got one in the Bears end zone with just over a minute left to clinch it. Chicago leads the league in takeaways (29) and interceptions (20).

New York Giants

New York had a two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday in a 25-22 loss in Philadelphia as the Giants couldn’t hold a 19-3 late second-quarter lead. Philly won it on a field goal with 22 seconds left. Manning had a very costly interception at the Philadelphia 2 right before halftime. He threw for 297 yards and a touchdown.

Saquon Barkley rushed for 101 yards and a TD on 13 carries while catching seven passes for 41 yards and a score. He’s a monster. For some reason, Barkley touched the ball just four times in the second half. Not good coaching. The Giants did cover vs. Philly but are only 2-13-1 ATS in their past 16 following an ATS win.
