It’s hard to imagine a player more critical to his team’s recent success than 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is 4-0 as a starter since being acquired from the New England Patriots.

The San Francisco 49ers visit the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday in the regular-season finale – and it’s hard to know which of these teams is headed to the postseason based on recent history. While the Rams have played their way into home-field advantage in the opening round of the NFC playoffs, it’s the 49ers who have been the hotter team – coming into this one having won four in a row, and in position to extend that streak against the potentially resting Rams.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Bettors will need to keep a close eye on this line, which has already shifted nine points in the 49ers’ favour amid reports the Rams will choose to rest key players like quarterback Jared Goff, running back Todd Gurley and defensive standout Aaron Donald. The line should move one way or the other depending on what the Rams ultimately decided to do – but for now, 57 percent of Sports Interaction bettors are taking the home team and the points.

The prospect of Los Angeles giving its second-stringers some run has had a minimal impact on the 44-point total – but it has resulted in the majority of the action (83 percent) falling on the under. The 49ers have gone below the total in five of their last six games against divisional opponents and are 1-4 O/U in their previous five against the NFC. The Rams have gone over in four straight games, but that was with the first-team offence in place.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco has looked like a completely different team under Garoppolo, who is averaging well over 300 passing yards per game in his four starts. The 49ers have also covered in three of those four games, improving them to 8-7 ATS for the season.

Los Angeles Rams

Throw everything out the window if head coach Sean McVay opts to start Sean Mannion in place of Goff this weekend. Even if Goff, Gurley, Donald and others do suit up, they likely won’t play much if any of the second half, making things even more difficult for bettors. One other thing working against the home team: new starting kicker Sam Ficken was terrible in his first career NFL game, missing a field goal and an extra-point attempt in place of Greg Zuerlein.
