49ers vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFC Conference Championships Odds, Prediction
The Eagles are 2.5-point favourites on the NFL odds.
NFC Conference Championship Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The 49ers and Eagles didn’t play in the 2022 regular season and last did Week 2 of the 2021 regular season in Philadelphia. San Francisco won 17-11 as Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 189 yards and a TD and rushed for a score. He hasn’t played in weeks due to injury but might be able to serve as the No. 2 this week behind rookie sensation Brock Purdy. Jalen Hurts was 12-for-23 for 190 yards and led Philly in rushing with 10 carries for 82 yards and a TD.
It’s the 18th trip to the conference title game for the Niners, the most in the NFL. They are 7-10 in the previous 17, including a 20-17 loss at the Los Angeles Rams last year. It’s the eighth trip for the Eagles, who are 3-4 in the previous seven. They were last here following the 2017 season and beat Minnesota on the way to winning the Super Bowl.
The lone playoff meeting between the franchises was a Wild Card game following the 1995 season, a 14-0 Niners home victory. The favourite is 7-3 ATS in the past 10 overall meetings.
San Francisco 49ers
We projected the Niners to beat the visiting Dallas Cowboys 26-20 in the Divisional Round, and it was 19-12. San Francisco rookie quarterback Brock Purdy improved to 7-0 in his career as a starter to continue one of the most unlikely stretches in league history, but he looked like a seventh-round pick at times against a good Cowboys defence as the Niners managed just one touchdown. That was by Christian McCaffrey, his eighth straight game with at least one. Purdy didn’t have a turnover, while San Francisco’s No. 1 defence picked off Dak Prescott twice and converted each into a field goal. It was the Niners’ 12th straight win, their longest streak since 1984. Purdy will be the fifth rookie quarterback to start a conference championship, joining Mark Sanchez, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger and Shaun King. None of those four made it to the Super Bowl. The Niners are 20-6 ATS in their past 26 vs. the NFC.
Philadelphia Eagles
There was major concern about the right shoulder injury to Eagles QB Jalen Hurts entering the Divisional Round matchup Saturday vs. the New York Giants, but he looked fine in a 38-7 rout. Hurts threw for 154 yards and two scores and rushed for 54 yards and another TD, and that shoulder should be that much closer to 100 per cent by Sunday. Philadelphia gashed the Giants for 268 yards on the ground, but things will be much tougher against a Niners defence that allowed only 77.7 ypg on the ground in the regular season. On the flip side, the Philly defence was the NFL’s best against the pass and in sacking the QB, and held New York to 109 yards passing and sacked Daniel Jones five times. That will be the difference against San Francisco’s young quarterback. The Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their past 10 at home.
