49ers vs. Colts Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction

Andrew Luck was once the up-and-coming thing in the NFL, but Jimmy Garoppolo is one of a few young QBs who’ve taken Luck’s corner. The two signal callers go head-to-head in a Saturday afternoon pre-season matchup. Oddsmakers currently have this matchup as a pick ’em on the NFL odds board.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Indy’s Frank Reich is one of five first time head coaches and the Colts are 1-1 straight up and 2-0 against the spread this pre-season. The Under is 2-0 in their games this August and 10-0 in their last 10 games dating back to last season.

Indianapolis finished second last in the league in total offence and third last in scoring a year ago, but that was without Andrew Luck under centre. The former 2012 first overall draft pick sat out all of the 2017 campaign because of pain in his throwing shoulder.

San Francisco football fans are eager to see their club’s progress in the first full season under the leadership of Jimmy GQ. The Niners are 1-1 SU and 0-1-1 ATS in two pre-season games this summer and put up just 13 points in their contest last week.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco first team starters are expected to play the full first half against Indianapolis. The first-string offence totaled 149 yards in two drives against Houston last weekend. Head coach Kyle Shanahan wasn’t impressed despite Garoppolo completing 10 of his 12 passes and going 6-for-6 on third down.

Bettors may want to buckle up. Shanahan is looking for perfection from his offensive unit and he could get it against a talent-deprived Indianapolis defence.

Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard injured his ankle against the Texans and has missed practice this week. Rookie Nick Mullens – formerly of University of Southern Mississippi – would likely get the majority of snaps in the second half if Beathard can’t play.

Indianapolis Colts

All eyes are on Andrew Luck in Indianapolis. The quarterback led the Colts to playoff appearances in each of his first three seasons in the league and tossed 40 touchdown passes in 2014. Sports Interaction lists Luck at +2500 to lead the NFL in passing yards in 2018 and those odds could grow with another poor pre-season showing.

Luck completed just six of his 13 pass attempts against the Baltimore Ravens last week and he threw a costly pick in the red zone. The Colts are expected to let Luck and the rest of the first-team offence play for the majority of the first half on Saturday against the 49ers.
