49ers vs. Browns Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction
It is far from certain that the Cleveland Browns will have Deshaun Watson back in the lineup in time for Sunday afternoon’s date with the undefeated San Francisco 49ers in NFL Week 6 action at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Browns quarterback suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder that forced him to miss the team’s 28-3 loss to Baltimore two weeks ago. And even with the benefit of a bye last week, it seems doubtful that Watson will be healthy enough to return to action so soon. Conversely, the 49ers arrive in Cleveland riding a nine-game win streak in regular season action, capped by a dominating 42-10 victory over Dallas last weekend.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Watson’s status, the 49ers are listed as just 7.5-point road favourites on the NFL Week 6 odds. The Browns are pegged as lengthy +280 moneyline underdogs in their bid to avoid losing two straight for the first time in 11 months, and the total is listed at just 37.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup is the first meeting between these teams since 2019, and the Niners’ first trip to Cleveland since 2015. The 49ers have claimed victory in two of their past three dates with the Browns, capped by a lopsided 31-3 home victory four years ago, which also extended the UNDER’s current run to 5-0 when these teams meet.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers quickly dashed the hopes of fans looking forward to a close contest in last week’s date with the Cowboys while storming to an early 21-7 lead, on their way to a 42-10 win. Indeed, the Niners attack is gaining momentum as the season advances, averaging 38.5 points per game over their past two outings after scoring 30 points in each of their first three games of the season.
Now sporting a sensational 12-1 record as the team’s starting quarterback, Brock Purdy connected for a career-high four touchdowns in last week’s win. This time, it was George Kittle who enjoyed being Purdy’s favourite target with three scoring catches, and Christian McCaffrey maintained his torrid pace by running for his seventh TD of the season, and has now reached the end zone in 14 straight games. Apart from rusher Elijah Mitchell, who missed Wednesday practice with a knee injury, the 49ers enjoy excellent health heading into the weekend.
Cleveland Browns
If, as expected, Deshaun Watson is unable to go this weekend, the Browns are expected to turn to PJ Walker under center. Walker has been promoted from the practice squad after rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson was overwhelmed in his first career NFL start two weeks ago versus the Ravens, when he connected on just 19-of-36 pass attempts for only 121 yards while tossing three picks.
Walker made five starts with the Carolina Panthers last season, averaging 134.2 yards and tossing for three TDs against three picks. Unfortunately for the Dawg Pound, the Browns’ injury woes don’t stop with Watson. The Browns were already missing rusher Nick Chubb due to injury, and saw their backfield woes deepen with Jerome Ford’s recent knee injury. Defender Myles Garrett also missed Wednesday practice with a foot injury, and is joined in the clinic by tight end David Njoku. Given the depth of the injury problems as Cleveland prepares to face arguably the best team in football, this contest could get out of hand quickly.
