Notes: With their core largely intact, the Chiefs return to action perched as season-opening favorites to claim their fifth Super Bowl title in six years.

2. San Francisco 49ers

Notes: 49ers return to action as two-time defending NFC West champions and have won 25 games over the past two seasons, but a return to Super Bowl glory has eluded them.

Notes: Like the 49ers, the Ravens have little to prove in the regular season, and have added a new dimension to their offence with the addition of star rusher Derrick Henry.

Notes: The Lions are coming off their best season in three decades, and enter the campaign as a legitimate threat to challenge for their fist ever Super Bowl title.

Notes: The Eagles won just one of their final seven overall games last season, and hope the addition of Saquon Barkley will kick start a sputtering offence.

Notes: The loss of Joe Burrow to injury was devastating for the Bengals a year ago. Can the talented passer stay healthy and lead this team back to the top of the AFC North?

Notes: With a season running the offence under his belt and a big new contract in hand, Jordan Love will face intense pressure to accelerate the Packers’ rebuild.

Notes: CJ Stroud will have veteran help in his bid to build on a sensational rookie season following the offseason additions of Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon. Could another AFC South title be in reach?

Notes: It has been three decades since the Cowboys reached the NFC championship game, and while this team is coming off a 12-win season, the absence of CeeDee Lamb and a lack of game action for starters during the preseason could mean a slow start.

Notes: Aaron Rodgers is back, and if the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback can stay healthy, the Jets could contend for the top of the AFC East.

Notes: The Dolphins return with much the same lineup as last year, led by NFL passing leader Tua Tagovailoa. However, with the Jets also improving, the Dolphins could struggle to match last season’s regular season success.

13. Atlanta Falcons

Notes: The arrival of Kirk Cousins has raised the hopes of long-suffering Falcons fans, who have seen this team producing losing records in each of the past five seasons.

14. Los Angeles Rams

Notes: With the glory of their Super Bowl 56 victory now a distant memory, and a Week 1 lineup that features 15 rookies, there could be some road bumps ahead for the Rams. However, LA should benefit from weak divisional rivals in the NFC West.

15. Chicago Bears

Notes: Caleb Williams will have plenty of opportunity to prove his worth as the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by a Bears squad that may be set to turn the corner after finishing last season on a 4-2 run.

16. Cleveland Browns

Notes: The Browns defence was tops in the NFL last season, but far more will be expected from passer Deshaun Watson in the wake of a rather disappointing debut in Cleveland.

17. Los Angeles Chargers

Notes: Justin Herbert’s injuries did little to help the Chargers avoid their worst finish in a decade in 2023. Herbert is once again on the injury report to open the season, raising doubts about his durability, and that a return to playoff contention is in reach.

18. Jacksonville Jaguars

Notes: A second-half meltdown dumped the Jags from the top of the standings to the postseason sidelines last year, placing an unwanted spotlight once again on team management and beleaguered quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

19. Pittsburgh Steelers

Notes: The new-look Steelers retooled under center with the additions of Russel Wilson and Justin Fields, but is not clear if that will be enough to challenge in the ultra-competitive AFC North.

Notes: Winners of just four games in each of the past two seasons, the Cardinals have nowhere to go but up. Could this be Kyler Murray’s last chance in the desert?

Notes: In the wake of the failed Russell Wilson experiment, rookie Bo Nix will receive every opportunity to claim the starting passer’s role.

Notes: Gardner Minshew returns to the ranks of undisputed NFL starting quarterbacks with his move to the Raiders, who struggled to produce consistent offence while going 8-98 last season. Expect a step back.

28. Tennessee Titans

Notes: The departure of Derrick Henry is a blow to a Titans squad that sported the NFL’s 28th ranked offence last season. However, a full season of Will levis and DeAndre Hopkins could be special.

Notes: Another season, another quarterback for the Commanders, who are expected to turn over the offence to rookie Jayden Daniels after finishing last season an 0-8 run during which they averaged 13.8 points per game.

30. New York Giants

Notes: The clock is ticking for quarterback Daniel Jones, who tossed for just two TDs in six games last season and enters the new campaign without the services of Saquon Barkley.

31. Carolina Panthers

Notes: The Panthers made wholesale changes during the offseason falling last season’s 2-15 debacle. A playoff berth is too much to ask, but if Bryce Young continues to progress, this team could make a major leap.

32. New England Patriots

Notes: The glory days are now a distant memory, and with Bill Belichick now gone, the rebuild can start in earnest. That means there is little reason for this team to rush prized prospects like rookie passer Drake Maye.
