Chase Young vs Penn State

Washington is priced -1240 at Sports Interaction to be the team that drafts Chase Young second overall, and it’s most likely going to happen.

Could the Washington Redskins be talked into trading the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and pass up Ohio State sublime pass-rusher Chase Young? It would take quite a trade haul for Washington to consider it.

Chase Young 2020 NFL Draft Odds

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner, is going first overall Thursday night to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft. That’s a lock.

While Burrow had arguably the greatest season for a quarterback in FBS history last year in leading the Tigers to a national championship, good luck finding a scout/draft expert who calls Burrow the top overall prospect in the Class of 2020. No, it’s unanimous that player is Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.

Washington is priced -1240 at Sports Interaction to be the team that drafts Young, and it’s most likely going to happen. Yes, Washington officials have gotten calls from teams interested in trading up for the No. 2 overall pick. It’s thought that any teams wanting to trade up would be to select either Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or Oregon’s Justin Herbert instead of Young.

2020 NFL Draft

Team to Draft Chase Young
  • Washington Redskins -1235
  • Detroit Lions +605
  • Cincinnati Bengals +1800
  • New York Giants +1900
  • Anyone else +2700
  • Miami Dolphins +5400

There’s nothing more valuable in sports than a franchise quarterback, but arguably the second-most valuable commodity in the NFL these days is a guy who can sack the quarterback, and Young can do that better than anyone. That Young is the No. 2 overall pick is -1420. That Washington’s first pick in the draft is a defensive player at -1895 compared to offensive at +800.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Young led the nation with 16.5 sacks last season – a school record — despite being suspended for two games because of an NCAA violation where Young admitted to accepting a loan from “a family friend.” Young also was second nationally in forced fumbles with six and finished fourth in the Heisman voting. He was just the ninth defensive player to even be a finalist since 1982.

That Young slips to the third overall pick is priced +1000 at Sports Interaction – the Detroit Lions would do jumping jacks if he were there at No. 3 (although Detroit is also getting calls about trading down). That Young is the first pick of the New York Giants, who are set to pick fourth on Thursday, is +3300.

Young will become the third Ohio State defensive end picked in the first round since 2016. That year, the Chargers took Joey Bosa at No. 3 overall and he won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. In 2019, the 49ers took Joey’s brother Nick at No. 2 overall and he won Defensive Rookie of the Year as well while leading San Francisco to the Super Bowl.

Young is a +300 favorite to win 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year, just ahead of Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons (+400). Scouts rank Young ahead of either Bosa brother. Young, after all, had 30.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles in 36 career games at Ohio State, while Joey had 26 sacks and five forced fumbles in 41 games, and Nick had 17.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 30.

NFL Draft Prediction

Young is picked second by Washington. The team is asking way too much for any other club to pay the freight to move up to No. 2.
