NCAA College Football Point Spreads: Week 7 Odds
So much for a Group of 5 team making the College Football Playoff for the first time. Houston probably would have made the national semifinals if the Cougars were able to run the table as they were ranked No. 6 in last week’s polls. However, UH was upset by unranked Navy on Saturday. That was the only major upset of Week 6. Here are five Week 7 games to watch and their Sports Interaction NCAA football odds. Matchups on Saturday unless noted and rankings from last week.
No. 22 West Virginia at Texas Tech
When: Noon ET
Point spread: Texas Tech -1.5
NCAAF ATS Pick: Red Raiders
West Virginia probably is the least-heralded unbeaten team in a Power 5 Conference. This was considered a make-or-break season for WVU coach Dana Holgorsen and so far so good, but the Mountaineers’ best win is probably 17-16 over Kansas State on Oct. 1 and that’s not saying much. This will be WVU’s first true road game of the year as it comes off a bye week. Texas Tech lost 44-38 at Kansas State on Saturday despite 504 yards passing and two scores from Patrick Mahomes, who was questionable with a shoulder injury. Last year, West Virginia beat visiting Texas Tech 31-26 behind 300 yards rushing. TTU’s high-powered offense was held to 378 yards and Mahomes threw for a season-low 196. He gets that much in a quarter occasionally. These schools have split the four meetings since WVU joined the Big 12.
No. 1 Alabama at No. 9 Tennessee
When: 3:30 p.m. ET
Point spread: Alabama -11.5
NCAAF ATS Pick: Volunteers
Potential preview of the SEC title game. Alabama won 49-30 at No. 16 Arkansas on Saturday behind four touchdowns from QB Jalen Hurts. The Tide have won a national-best 18 straight games. Tennessee suffered its first loss Saturday, 45-38 in double overtime at No. 8 Texas A&M. UT had nearly 700 yards of offense but turned the ball over a whopping seven times. It’s definitely not fair for Tennessee that its crossover annual foe in the West Division is Alabama every year considering how good the Tide have been since Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa. And not coincidentally with Saban’s arrival, the Tide are on a nine-game winning streak vs. the Vols. Last year, No. 8 Alabama won 19-14 at home on a 14-yard touchdown run from eventual Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry with 2:24 to play. Tennessee missed three field goals in the game.
No. 17 North Carolina at No. 10 Miami
When: 3:30 p.m. ET
Point spread: Miami -7
NCAAF ATS Pick: Hurricanes
Big matchup in the ACC’s Coastal Division. UNC is the defending Coastal champion, while Miami has never reached the ACC title game. North Carolina might fall out of the new polls after a 34-3 home loss to No. 25 Virginia Tech on Saturday. That game was played in the remnants of Hurricane Matthew. The Tar Heels had only 131 yards. Miami lost 20-19 at home to No. 23 Florida State when the Seminoles blocked what would have been the tying extra point with 1:38 left. UM quarterback Brad Kaaya not only had a tooth knocked out but injured his shoulder. He will be limited this week due to the latter but should play. The No. 23 Heels routed the visiting Hurricanes 59-21 last November. It was over at halftime with UNC leading 31-0. That was Miami’s third game of 2015 after firing coach Al Golden.
No. 2 Ohio State at No. 11 Wisconsin
When: 8 p.m. ET
Point spread: Ohio State -10.5
NCAAF ATS Pick: Buckeyes
A potential Big Ten Championship Game preview, although Wisconsin probably has to win this to take the West Division. The Badgers got the short end of the scheduling stick this year in having to play Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State from the East Division. Wisconsin was on the bye last week following a hard-fought 14-7 loss at No. 4 Michigan on Oct. 1. UW was held to just 159 yards and eight first downs while turning it over three times. Ohio State beat Indiana 38-17 on Saturday in a bit of a trap game for the Buckeyes. OSU and Wisconsin haven’t played since the 2014 Big Ten title game. You may remember that Ohio State was an underdog in that one because it had lost starting QB J.T. Barrett the week before to a season-ending injury. But the Buckeyes cruised to a 59-0 win that got them into the College Football Playoff on the way to the national title. Wisconsin has lost seven of the past eight meetings.
Arizona State at No. 21 Colorado
When: 8 p.m. ET
Point spread: Colorado -10
NCAAF ATS Pick: Sun Devils
Potentially important game in the Pac-12 South Division as ASU, Colorado and Utah are all tied for first in the South with one conference loss. The Sun Devils beat UCLA 23-20 in Week 6. ASU’s Zane Gonzalez kicked three field goals to become the FBS all-time leader. Arizona State played the game without starting QB Manny Wilkins due to injury and then his backup, Brady White, left with a leg injury in the fourth quarter. So we will see who’s under center this week. The Buffs lost 21-17 at USC on Saturday. It was Colorado’s first game as a ranked team in 11 years. ASU is 7-0 all time against Colorado. Last year in Tempe the Sun Devils won 48-23, although CU is much better in 2016. Mike Bercovici (now gone) threw for 260 yards and five touchdowns for Arizona State.
