If the makers of Tecmo Bowl added this year’s version of San Diego State and Army to their legendary NES game, there would only be running plays in both offensive playbooks.

The Aztecs boast Rashaad Perry, the nation’s top rusher, while the Black Cats are the No. 2 running team in the country. To borrow a line from Hulk Hogan – whatchoo gonna do when San Diego State and Army run wild on you?

Betting Analysis

The Aztecs went 10-2 straight up and 8-4 against the spread during the regular season with wins over Pac-12 big boys Stanford and Arizona State. They finished the season going 4-0 SU and ATS and averaged over 39 points per game over the stretch. Their stingy scoring defense helped the under go 7-4-1 in the Aztecs’ 12 contests.

Army produced its best season in over two decades by winning nine of its 12 games and going 6-6 ATS. The Black Cats captured their first Commander in Chief’s Trophy since 1996 after topping both Navy and Air Force during the regular season. The under cashed in three of Army’s last four games and went 6-6 on the year.

San Diego State Aztecs

San Diego State fell short of its season aspiration of winning the Mountain West but a win over the Black Cats in the Armed Forces Bowl would give the program its third-straight, 11-win season – and that’s nothing to sneeze at for a non-Power 5 conference team.

The Aztecs beat Air Force – a team with a similar run-heavy offense to Army – 28-24 back in Week 4. San Diego State finished 22nd in the country in fewest yards allowed per carry at 3.6.

Army Black Knights

The Black Cats play like the forward pass is still illegal in their own rule book. Army starting quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw attempted just 40 passes all season and average more yards per rushing carry (7.5) than yards per pass attempt (7.0).

Bradshaw is the key to Army’s attack. The option QB finished 1845 combined rushing and passing yards along with 13 touchdowns. There was a report about a rape allegation against Bradshaw between Army’s last game of the season and the layoff before the bowl game. An Army investigation dismissed the rape claim from 2014 according to an ESPN report.
