The Jayhawks was to face the winner of a First Four game between two No. 16 seeds, which turned out to be the Texas Southern Tigers. Kansas is expected to roll here. Is there any risk of an upset?
Texas Southern vs. Kansas NCAA Tournament Point Spread and Betting
We’re looking at huge number here and for what it’s worth, the Tigers have done well as a dog. They are 4-0-1 in their last five NCAA Tournament games and 3-0-1 in their last four as a neutral site dog. Take note of the over trends for this team as the over has cashed in nine straight for them.
As for Kansas, they are just 1-4 ATS in their last five NCAA Tournament contests but are 4-0 ATS in their last four as a favorite (overall). Six of their last eight March Madness contests have gone over.
Texas Southern Tigers (16)
Texas Southern is the SWAC champion. The Tigers have won their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row and have played a First Four game in Dayton before, so they will be familiar with what it takes to play in that spot and then gear up for the Big Dance.
Texas Southern has the distinction of beating the No. 1 seed in its conference tournament, Alcorn State, by 25 points, which is a feather in their cap but it probably doesn’t mean much here.
Kansas Jayhawks (1)
It is weird and unusual, but Kansas was not the central point of attention in the Big 12 Conference heading into this season. Keep in mind that from 2005 through 2018, Kansas never lost the Big 12. The Jayhawks won at least a share of the conference championship 14 straight years, so they were the obvious blue-blood and king of the conference. However, Baylor usurped the Jayhawks last season by winning the national championship. The Bears entered this season with more hype than KU, viewed as the team to beat. Yet, here we are, and the Jayhawks are coming off the Big 12 Tournament championship after sharing the regular-season title with Baylor.
Kansas relies on Ochai Agbaji for crunch-time buckets and on big man David McCormack for interior defense and rebounding. The X-factor might be Remy Martin, a transfer from Arizona State who was impressive in the Big 12 Tournament championship game win over Texas Tech. Kansas is playing its best ball at the right time of year. The Jayhawks should be able to dictate the terms on which this game is played, regardless of the opponent.
