The Spartans (21-8) were the regular-season and Southern Conference Tournament champions. They have a very highly-regarded coach in Wes Miller, who could be lured away by a power conference school this offseason. He has led the program to five straight seasons with at least 20 victories.
Senior guard Isaiah Miller is this team’s star, and he could play for any school. Miller is the only player in the 100-year history of the SoCon to be named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. He leads the league in scoring (19.3) and steals (2.6) and also averages 6.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists. It’s the fourth NCAA Tournament bid for UNC Greensboro, which is looking for its first victory. It lost by four points to No. 4 Gonzaga in the 2018 first round. The Spartans are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games overall.

This is my somewhat sleeper pick to win the East Region in part because top-seeded Michigan may be without one of its best players, Isaiah Livers, for the Big Dance and the Seminoles and Wolverines could meet in the Sweet 16. Florida State (16-6) finished second in the ACC regular season and was upset by Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament title game.
Guard MJ Walker is one of the best in the ACC and leads the team in scoring (13.0 ppg) and three-pointers made (44). Freshman Scottie Barnes (11.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 4.2 apg) was a mega-recruit who was named ACC Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year. He’ll be a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. It’s the 18th NCAA Tournament for FSU and fourth in a row. The Noles have won at least one game in their past five trips.
