VCU vs. Oregon Bracket Prediction: March Madness Odds
After making it to the Final Four in 2017 and the Sweet 16 in 2019, the No. 7 ranked Oregon Ducks will be looking to make another deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Up first for the Ducks, is a first round matchup with the No. 10 seeded VCU Rams.
VCU Rams vs. Oregon Ducks NCAA Tournament Point Spread and Betting
After Oregon opened as 6-point favourites over VCU, the line has settled at -5. The Rams have had success against Pac-12 teams, as they’ve covered in six straight games against the division, while the Ducks have covered in their last six games overall. These teams, however, are coming into the Tournament with very different over/under trends. VCU has been an Under team in nine of their last 13 games, while Oregon has hit the Over in their last seven.
(10) VCU Rams
This isn’t a team that is going to shoot their way to success and win by blowing out opponents. VCU earned their spot in the first round by being a detail-oriented team that focuses on defence. They hold teams to an average of 64.8 points per game, 40 per cent field goal shooting and 30 per cent shooting from beyond the arc, all top-50 rankings in the country. Everything for the Rams starts with Nah’Shon Hyland. The sophomore guard averages a team-high 19.5 points per game and was named A-10 Player of the Year. Hason Ward has been the defensive MVP for this team all season. Ward is averaging 3.6 defensive rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game and was named to the A-10 All-Defensive team. VCU knows that to win this game, it’s going to come down to winning rebounds and shutting Oregon down on the outside.
(7) Oregon Ducks
Oregon is a No. 7 seed after winning the Pac-12 regular season, but falling to rival Oregon State in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament. The Ducks are a very good team from 3-point land. They’re shooting 37.9 per cent from beyond the arc (24th in the country) and went 14-1 in games they hit 38 per cent of their threes. Oregon averages 74.1 points per game and limits opponents to 66.9 points. Five players are averaging double-digit points, but no one has been better than Eugene Omoruyi and Chris Duarte. Both players are averaging 16.7 points per game and Duarte leads the team in assists (2.3), steals (1.9) and blocks (0.8). Oregon should be able to handle the tough VCU defence. The Rams won’t be able to contain both Omoruyi and Duarte, so look for one of those two players to have a big impact on how this game goes.
