FAU vs. San Diego State Final Four Point Spread and Betting
It’s the first-ever Final Four appearance for both Florida Atlantic and San Diego State. The Owls will be leaving Conference USA for the American Athletic Conference when the season concludes (football too). The Aztecs have been making noise about leaving the Mountain West for the Pac-12. San Diego State is +362 to win the national title on Monday and Florida Atlantic is +572.
San Diego State is 2-0 all-time vs. FAU, but they haven’t played since December 2002. The winner will face either No. 5 Miami (Fla.) or No. 4 UConn on Monday for the national championship. With their combined seeds of 23, this group has the second-highest total since the tournament expanded in 1985. The only higher total was 26 in 2011.
Florida Atlantic Owls (9)
Conference USA regular-season and tournament champion Florida Atlantic had never won an NCAA Tournament game before this season but has four single-digit wins in this Dance following a 79-76 upset of No. 3 Kansas State on Saturday in the Elite Eight. Owls star Johnell Davis had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Michael Forrest had 17 points, including two clutch late free throws. Centre Vlad Goldin had 14 points and 13 rebounds for FAU, which is the first Conference USA team to reach the national semifinals since Memphis in 2008. Florida Atlantic is the ninth No. 9 seed or lower all-time to reach the Final Four since seeding began in 1979. None of the previous eight made it to the title game. FAU’s basketball program didn’t move to Division I until 1993 and had one regular-season title in program history before this season. The Owls lead Division I with 35 wins. FAU is 4-1 ATS in its past five games.
San Diego St. Aztecs (5)
Mountain West regular-season and tournament champion San Diego State knocked off No. 6 Creighton 57-56 on Sunday. Aztecs senior guard Darrion Trammell was fouled by Ryan Nembhard when he put up a floater near the free-throw line with 1.2 seconds left. Trammell missed the first three throw but made the second for the win. Lamont Butler scored 18 points, and Trammell had 12 as SDSU became the first Mountain West team to reach the national semifinals. Coach Brian Dutcher’s team can defend like few others and held high-powered Creighton to 2-for-17 from deep and a season-low 23 points in the second half. SDSU shot just 37.9 per cent overall from the field itself and 3-for-13 from the three-point line. The Aztecs are 15-5-2 ATS in their last 22 games overall.
