The Spartans aren’t flashy, but they’re disciplined, and they defend the perimeter as well as anyone left in the tournament. Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins give them veteran guard play, while Malik Hall has been rock solid in the paint. It’s not always pretty, but Izzo’s group wears you down.
To keep this one close, the Spartans will need to control tempo, win the battle on the boards, and make Auburn work in the half court. They’ve done that well all tournament—but Auburn presents a different kind of challenge.
Auburn Tigers
Auburn (30–5) just dismantled a Michigan team that had been rolling, holding them to 65 points and forcing 14 turnovers. That’s been the Tigers’ identity all year: pressure, pace, and scoring depth. Johni Broome continues to anchor the frontcourt, while Chad Baker-Mazara and Aden Holloway give Auburn scoring from multiple levels. Bruce Pearl’s squad doesn’t just get hot—they stay hot. And when their defense feeds their offense, they can pull away in a hurry.
The one knock? They haven’t had to play from behind much in this tournament. If Michigan State slows things down and keeps the Tigers from getting into rhythm, we could have a real test of Auburn’s poise.
