Indiana vs. Wyoming NCAA Tournament Point Spread and Betting
The winner of this game from the East Region will face Saint Mary’s in the first round of the Big Dance on Thursday from Portland, Oregon.
Wyoming, of the Mountain West Conference, is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 and 16th time overall. It’s the first time the Cowboys got an at-large bid since 2002. Not all that long ago, Indiana of the Big Ten was considered one of the nation’s blueblood programs, but it’s IU’s first time in the Big Dance since 2016.
It’s the first meeting between the schools since December 1999. Indiana hasn’t played a Mountain West team anywhere since beating UNLV in November 2015 in the Maui Invitational.
Indiana Hoosiers
This is the first season as Indiana coach for Mike Woodson, a former All-American player at the school and former NBA head coach for the Hawks and Knicks. He has become the second head coach in NCAA history (Larry Brown) to begin his head coaching career in the NBA and earn an NCAA berth in his first year as a collegiate head coach. Indiana (20-13) was on the wrong side of the bubble entering the Big Ten Tournament but then beat fellow bubble team Michigan and upset regular-season Illinois before falling to eventual tournament champion Iowa in the semifinals on a last-second three-pointer.
IU is first in the Big Ten in field goal percentage defence (39.1 per cent). Michigan went more than 10 minutes without a field goal against that defence in the conference tournament and Illinois didn’t make a field goal in the final five minutes. Indiana’s best player is sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis (18.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg). The Hoosiers are 13-6 ATS in their past 19 as favourites.
Wyoming Cowboys
Wyoming (25-8) had to sweat Selection Sunday after losing to Boise State in the Mountain West Tournament semifinal. The Cowboys have an excellent 1-2 punch in forward Graham Ike (19.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg) and guard Hunter Maldonado (18.4 ppg, 6.3 apg, 5.8 rpg). Maldonado was named first-team All-Mountain West – he had only the third triple-double in school history in one game this year — and Ike second team. Ike is one of only four players in the nation averaging at least 19 points and nine rebounds per game.
Wyoming defends the three-pointer well as teams hit only 30.5 per cent from deep. While Wyoming had a solid 8-5 record on the road, the Cowboys did not own a Top-50 KenPom win outside their home arena. They are 1-4 ATS in their past five games.
