Bryant vs. Wright St. Bracket Prediction: March Madness Odds
It’s a very intriguing 2022 NCAA Tournament First Four matchup Wednesday from Dayton, Ohio, as No. 16 Bryant faces No. 16 Wright State. The Raiders are 3.5-point favourites to win on the college basketball odds.
Bryant vs. Wright St. NCAA Tournament Point Spread and Betting
The winner of this game from the South Region will face top-seeded Arizona, the Pac-12 regular-season and tournament champion, on Friday from San Diego.
Some are calling this the best 16 vs. 16 First Four matchup in history, and I might agree as one could argue both Bryant and Wright State should have had better seeds. I don’t think either will beat Arizona but if they were a No. 15, I’d maybe give them a shot in Round 1 against a 2 seed.
It’s the first NCAA Tournament appearance for Bryant, which has only been a Division I program for a bit more than a decade. It’s the fourth Big Dance for Wright State, which is 0-3 all-time in it. The Raiders last made it in 2018 and lost as a No. 14 seed to No. 3 Tennessee.
This is the first ever meeting between Bryant and Wright State.
Bryant Bulldogs (16)
Bryant (16-2) won the Northeast Conference regular-season title with just two league losses and then won the conference tournament as well. The Bulldogs are fun to watch behind the nation’s leading scorer in Peter Kiss (25.1 ppg), who definitely likes to play to the crowd. This team shoots a ton of 3-pointers and it needs to outscore foes because the defence isn’t very good. With Kiss and Charles Pride (18.0 ppg), Bryant has the nation’s highest-scoring duo. Kiss had 34 points, and Pride his 10th double-double of the year with 13 points and 17 rebounds in the NEC title game rout of Wagner. The Bulldogs are 12-4 ATS in their past 16 games.
Wright St. Raiders (16)
Wright State (21-13) is located in Dayton so it should have a massive fan advantage. It finished fourth in the Horizon League regular-season standings but beat Northern Kentucky 72-71 in the conference tournament title game – the Raiders could be a bit rusty as that game was back on March 8. Trey Calvin hit game game-winning shot with 10.5 seconds left to complete a rally from down 16 with 12 minutes to play. The team’s Big 3 is Tanner Holden (19.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg), Grant Basile (18.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg) and Calvin (14.3 ppg). Wright State did beat ACC school NC State by 14 during the season. The Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their past five vs. teams with a winning record.
