Durant hasn’t played since Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals due to a calf strain and isn’t expected before Game 3 of this series (if at all). It’s possible that DeMarcus Cousins plays in Game 1. He hasn’t since Game 2 of the first round vs. the Clippers. Iguodala missed Game 4 of the West Finals with a calf injury but should play Thursday.

NBA Finals Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Somewhat unusual that the Warriors are Game 1 underdogs, albeit barely, yet are favoured to win their fourth NBA title in the past five seasons. The favourite for Finals MVP is Steph Curry (-125), who has yet to win that award in his Hall of Fame career. Kevin Durant (+1000) won it the past two years and Andre Iguodala (+2500) did in 2015.

Both Durant and Toronto’s Kawhi Leonard (+300 for Finals MVP) are free agents after this season, and most believe that Durant is going to leave the Warriors. Might be hard for Leonard to do the same if the Raptors win their first NBA title, although he’s known to want to play in his hometown of Los Angeles.

The underdog has covered the past four between the Raptors and Warriors. The total has gone over in all four.

Golden State Warriors

Durant will go down as one of the best players in NBA history, but the Warriors are an insane 31-1 in games he misses but Curry plays. The team has posted a 28-18 mark with Curry out of the lineup and Durant in. Curry and Draymond Green especially have raised their games since Durant’s injury and both had a triple-double in the clinching Game 4 of the West Finals against Portland. Golden State is 29-1 all-time in games Green has a triple-double.

Since the NBA began its current playoff format in 1984, the Warriors’ nine days off between series is tied for the longest break. Golden State has won its past 12 Game 1s of a series. The Warriors are 1-2 all-time in road Game 1s of an NBA Finals.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors have home-court advantage in the series because they finished with one more win than the Warriors in the regular season and swept the series. It was 131-128 in overtime at Scotiabank Arena on Nov. 29. Leonard had 37 points and Pascal Siakam 26. Durant had 51, while Curry and Green were injured.

In Oakland on Dec. 13, the Raptors won 113-93 without Leonard. Kyle Lowry had 23 points and 12 assists. Durant had 30 points, and both Curry and Green played. The Raptors didn’t see Cousins at all.  They were 10-0 against the Warriors’ Pacific Division this season, the only club in the league with an unbeaten record against any division. It hadn’t happened in the NBA since the Warriors did it vs. Southeast in 2015-16.
