Phoenix Suns vs. Denver Nuggets Game 5 Prediction, NBA Odds

Game 4 lived up to the billing of what so many thought this series would be. Lead changes, beguiling offensive plays, unexpected heroes, and a team owner getting in on the action. When the dust settled, Phoenix overcame a 53-point night from Nikola Jokic to win 129-124.

The NBA odds favour the host Nuggets, but only slightly. Denver is perched on a -5.5 status for tonight’s game. The total has been tabulated at 227.5.

Suns vs. Nuggets NBA Playoffs Betting Odds

Now that the series has been reduced to a best-of-three, the series board still has Denver favoured at -172 to Phoenix’s +129. This is most likely a product of the home teams having won all the contests thus far and two of the final three, should all be required, set for Colorado.

The Denver Nuggets franchise has never made it to the NBA Finals, and this year looks like as good a chance as ever. That said, the club finds itself in a breathtaking battle with a side that not so long ago paved a path to the final, and that was without the services of Kevin Durant. Durant himself has plenty of finals experience, having participated in no fewer than four and winning two – to say nothing of two Finals MVP awards. Denver may have the home court advantage and the number one seed in the West, but Phoenix has the personnel that know how to survive this kind of a series.

Through four games, the over has cashed in three times.

Phoenix Suns

Sunday night was a heck of a performance by the Suns. They knew they couldn’t afford to trail the Nuggets 3-1 in the series and fought tooth and nail against a two-time league MVP.

With only a few minutes left in the first quarter, the hosts trailed by eight, and that’s when the Suns started rising. What else can be said about Devin Booker? When one puts up playoff numbers that rival Michael Jordan, they’re doing something right. It was another brilliant performance, with a tally of 36 points off 14-for-18 shooting. His efficiency is bonkers. Furthermore, he dished 12 dimes, so he’s helping others get in on the action as well. This isn’t a solo act. Three-point shots, drives to the paint, mid-range jumpers, everything is going in.

KD joined him with 36 of his own, and it’s insane that we’re hardly talking about one of the greatest shooters the game has ever seen, but that’s how spectacular Booker has been. The surprise hero came off the bench. Landry Shamet was incredible down the stretch, scoring 19 points, especially his 5-for-8 from long range.

Denver Nuggets

What else could the Joker have done? 53 points, 20-for-30 from the field, and 11 assists. He whirled around defenders, lay-upped shots when sandwiched, and shoved the Suns owner when the latter refused to hand the ball back. It was quite a night.

And yet it still wasn’t enough. Jamal Murray was a bit quieter in Game 4, although he didn’t have a poor outing per se. 28 points helped the Nuggets stay in the game whenever it looked as though the hosts would pull away. Some of his shots had incredible degrees of difficulty too. In fact, all the Nuggets starters hit double-digit figures in points, which usually paves the way toward victory. Only three bench players were utilized, and it was curious to see Jeff Green being one of them. He didn’t help matters at all, especially on defence.

More long-range shots have to go in. Not only are the Suns scoring like crazy, but the Nuggets only made 31.8 per cent of their attempts from downtown (Suns were 44.8 per cent). Teams don’t often lose when winning the paint battle 72-46, but that’s the opposition Denver is dealing with now.
