Raptors vs. Magic NBA Betting Odds

Were the Orlando Magic going to win the Eastern Conference title this season at full health? Most likely not, but this young up-and-coming club may have made some noise. Alas, it now appears the Magic will not be at full health the rest of the season with guard Jalen Suggs likely done following knee surgery. He is averaging 16.2 points and considered one the league’s elite perimeter defenders. Orlando has gone 20-15 across Suggs’ 35 games and 9-18 without him.

Suggs, a 23-year-old who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Gonzaga – one spot after Toronto took Florida State’s Scottie Barnes – hadn’t played since Jan. 25 and wasn’t improving, so that it was determined he needed arthroscopic surgery to remove a cartilage fragment in his left knee wasn’t that surprising. The only timetable given is out indefinitely, but it would be a surprise if he’s back this year. The Magic have too bright of a future to be that shortsighted.

Tuesday is the last meeting of the season between the teams with the Raptors leading 2-1 following Sunday’s 104-102 upset victory.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto had lost three straight, all by double digits, and was +7 in Orlando on Sunday evening but upset the Magic 104-102. Interesting game as the Dinos largely dominated the first and third quarters and Orlando the second and fourth. Toronto didn’t score for the final 2:52 of the game. Immanuel Quickley led the way with 24 points, 17 in the second half. Quickley has now led Raptors scorers in seven games this season, including two of the last three on the road. RJ Barrett had 22 points. Gradey Dick left after being struck in the face by the back of Cole Anthony’s head during a fall late in the first half and didn’t return. He is out Tuesday as is Ochai Agbaji for a second game in a row. Ja’Kobe Walter entered the Raptors’ starting lineup for the start of the second half Sunday and finished with seven points in 31 minutes. Toronto looks to win this series for the first time since the 2020-21 season and secure its 60th franchise win over Orlando. The under is 4-1 in the Raptors’ past five on the road.

Orlando Magic

Sunday’s 104-102 loss was Orlando’s third in a row, all at home. Sometimes, this club just doesn’t have enough offence – especially with Jalen Suggs out as we mentioned above. Franz Wagner missed a good look at the potential tying layup just before the buzzer Sunday under good defensive pressure from Scottie Barnes. Wagner led the Magic with 25 points, while fellow young frontcourt star Paolo Banchero had 23 points. But, again, little help that that excellent duo. The Magic generally get killed when one or both have to take a breather. Orlando leads the NBA in scoring defence at 105.7 points per game and on Sunday fell to 15-32 when its opponents score more than 100. The under is 6-1 in the Magic’s past seven at home.
