NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Toronto will be without OG Anunoby again and perhaps Norman Powell. Anunoby is dealing with a left calf strain and Coach Nick Nurse said before Sunday’s win over Orlando that Anunoby could be out another week. He’s fourth on the team in scoring at 14.6 ppg and an excellent defender. Powell has missed the past two with a right quad contusion but was called “close to returning” by Nurse on Sunday. Terence Davis has been starting for Powell, who is averaging 14.3 points and has had four straight games with at least 20.
Orlando likely will be down one of its better players in forward Aaron Gordon. He rolled his ankle after stepping on Raptors forward Stanley Johnson’s foot in the third quarter Sunday and was in obvious pain. Gordon earlier was called for a flagrant 1 foul on Kyle Lowry that might lead to a suspension. Dinos fans may remember that Lowry had a very hard foul on Gordon during the NBA bubble in Orlando last summer that ultimately forced Gordon to miss the playoffs. Lowry received a flagrant 1 foul after a review by officials.
Toronto has covered seven straight in this series. The under is 10-4 in the past 14.
Toronto Raptors
Toronto closed as a 5.5-point favourite on Sunday in Tampa and won 115-102 to snap a three-game skid (Dinos haven’t lost four in a row in three years). Pascal Siakam is starting to get rolling as he had 30 points along with 10 rebounds and three steals in the victory. That’s 62 points on 23-for-43 shooting in the past two games. Lowry shrugged off the foul by Gordon to finish with 12 points, a season-high 15 assists and six rebounds. Aron Baynes contributed in a big way again with 16 rebounds and eight points in 29 minutes. Toronto is 2-7 ATS in its past nine after a win.
Orlando Magic
Considering Gordon was seen with crutches after Sunday’s loss, he’s unlikely to play here. He had 14 points and five boards before the injury. The Dinos played excellent defence on Orlando’s best player, centre Nik Vucevic, as he was just 5-for-18 from the field for 15 points. He did have 14 rebounds. Starting guard Evan Fournier hit only 2-for-12 from the field. It was the Magic’s third straight loss and 11th in the past 13 — that stretch coincides with when starting point guard Markelle Fultz went down with a season-ending injury. Orlando is near the bottom of the league in shooting at 38.8 per cent. The Magic are 1-5 ATS in their past six after a loss.
