Raptors vs. Jazz Prediction: NBA Odds, Point Spread

Payton Matthews | Updated Apr 30, 2021

As the Raptors continue to try to keep their playoff hopes alive by hunting down the final play-in tournament spot, they'll need more big games from OG Anunoby, who put up a team-high 25 points on Thursday.

It’s an important game for both the Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz as they close their season series on Saturday night from Salt Lake City. The Jazz will be favoured on the NBA odds, but injuries will play a role where the final number ends up.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Toronto needs all the wins they can get, to qualify for the Eastern Conference play-in tournament (if they even wants in). Utah also needs to keep their foot on the gas as they try for the best record in the NBA and potential home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Jazz were the first team to clinch a playoff berth, doing so earlier this week. Utah has been eliminated in the first round two times in a row and blew a 3-1 series lead vs. Denver in the Orlando bubble last summer.

Utah goes for the season sweep as they beat the Raptors in Tampa, Fla., on March 19, 115-112 when Toronto was in the midst of nine-game losing streak. Donovan Mitchell, one of three Jazz All-Stars, had 31 points in that games, including eight in the final minute-and-a-half. He was 15-for-16 from the free-throw line. Rudy Gobert had 15 points and 16 rebounds. Gobert is the betting favourite to win NBA Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in his career. Only three players have done that: Dikembe Mutombo (four), Ben Wallace (three) and Dwight Howard (three). No Raptors player has won the award, although Kawhi Leonard won it twice while playing for San Antonio.

Pascal Siakam led Toronto with 27 points and nine assists in the first meeting but his 3-point shot at the final horn spun around the rim and out. The Raptors are still 8-2 in the past 10 meetings and 9-1 against the spread.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors were without the injured Chris Boucher and Gary Trent Jr. on Thursday in Denver and they ruled out Fred VanVleet pre-game due to “injury maintenance.” That essentially ended any shot the Dinos had of upsetting the Nuggets, who won 121-111. Earning the 10th seed in the East and the final spot in the play-in tournament is looking more and more remote. OG Anunoby led Toronto with 25 points on Thursday, while Khem Birch had his best game in a Dinos uniform with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Malachi Flynn started for VanVleet and had 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. The bench did next to nothing largely because Boucher and Flynn weren’t on it. Toronto is now 12-19 ATS on the road.

Utah Jazz

This could be a major trap game for Utah, after playing a massive one for potentially the top seed in the Western Conference/NBA on Friday night in Phoenix. The Jazz were without two of their All-Stars in leading scorer Donovan Mitchell and point guard Mike Conley again Friday due to injuries. Mitchell is not playing here, either, and Conley almost surely won’t. If Conley couldn’t play in Friday’s huge game, it’s hard to imagine he will Saturday in the second of back-to-back. There’s always the chance Coach Quin Snyder rests a player in the second of a B2B as well. Saturday starts a five-game homestand for the Jazz, who are 26-4 at Vivint Arena and 20-9-1 ATS. Utah is 14-10 all-time at home vs. Toronto, but they’ve dropped the past four.
