The Toronto Raptors get their first look this season at young star Ja Morant on Wednesday night as they visit the Memphis Grizzlies.

Memphis is favoured to win on the NBA odds.

Raptors vs. Grizzlies NBA Betting Odds

Wednesday is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams with Memphis in Toronto next Tuesday. Last season, they split with each winning on the road. The Raptors won in Memphis 128-113 by outscoring the Grizzlies 34-16 in the fourth quarter. Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam each scored 32 points. Coach Nick Nurse was ejected in the third quarter for receiving a second technical foul.

Former Raptor Jonas Valanciunas led the Grizzlies with 27 points and 20 rebounds but in a surprise, he was traded this off-season to New Orleans. Ja Morant was just 5-for-17 from the field for 18 points with nine assists. Morant, though, is one of the bright young stars in the NBA and has raised his game in his third season. Memphis may have gotten lucky in the 2019 NBA Draft when the Pelicans chose Zion Williamson at No. 1 overall and that left Morant at No. 2 for the Grizzlies. Williamson is a special talent but can’t stay healthy.

Toronto leads the all-time series 26-24 but is 11-13 in Memphis despite winning the past three there. The Dinos are 8-2 against the spread (and straight up) in the past 10 overall.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto is 1-3 on its six-game road trip following a 119-104 loss at Golden State on Sunday. There was originally some hope that OG Anunoby would return from injury for that game but he wasn’t able to – decent chance he plays Wednesday. The Raptors shot just 39.4 per cent overall and missed nine of 20 free throws. Pascal Siakam had 21 points and rookie Scottie Barnes 10 points and 13 rebounds. Every starter was at least minus-13 and Gary Trent Jr., 3-for-16 from the field, was minus-31. In the previous five games, he had been averaging a team-high 23.0 points and 51.8 per cent shooting. Golden State does have one of the NBA’s top defences.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis looked absolutely awful Saturday in a blowout loss at Minnesota yet then upset the excellent Jazz in Utah on Monday, 119-118. Sometimes the NBA doesn’t make sense. Jaren Jackson Jr. had his best game of the season vs. the Jazz with 26 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer in the final seconds as Memphis scored the game’s final seven points. Ja Morant really struggled from the field in shooting 9-for-30 but had 32 points and seven assists, including the helper on Jackson’s bucket. Second-leading scorer and Canadian Dillon Brooks (19.3 ppg) was out injured as was backup point guard De’Anthony Melton. Brandon Clarke is also from Canada and had 10 points Monday.
