Toronto Raptors vs. Philadelphia 76ers Game 2 Prediction, NBA Odds

The Toronto Raptors could be missing two starters and a key reserve Monday night when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. The Sixers have risen to 7-point favourites on the NBA odds.

Raptors vs. 76ers NBA Betting Odds

With Philadelphia up 1-0 in the series, it is -455 to win it (was -179) with Toronto at +352 (was +150). On the series handicap, the Sixers at -1.5 games are -185. The favoured exact result is Philadelphia in five at +250 followed by in seven at +321. Toronto in five is the +1803 long shot. The over-under is 5.5 games with the over at -130.

Keep in mind that Monday is the last time until Game 5 that the 76ers will have guard Matisse Thybulle, an excellent defender. He is unvaccinated for COVID and thus can’t play in Toronto. Thybulle wasn’t much of a factor on offence in Game 1 with three points in 19 minutes, but that’s not really his game.

The Raptors are 2-5 against the spread in their past seven in Philly.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto closed as a 4.5-point underdog for Game 1 but was largely outclassed in a 131-111 defeat. To make matters worse, rookie Scottie Barnes injured his ankle and Thaddeus Young his thumb. Gary Trent Jr. didn’t practice Sunday with a non-COVID illness, and they are all doubtful for Monday. That’s crushing.

Coach Nick Nurse mentioned adding someone to the rotation to handle the ball such as Malachi Flynn and Armoni Brooks if Barnes and Trent Jr. are out. Every Raptors starter had a plus/minus of minus -11 or worse in the opener. Trent was off, hitting just 2-for-11, but everyone else in the starting lineup shot well. Pascal Siakam led with 24 points. The Raptors are 4-1 ATS in their past five following a loss.

Philadelphia 76ers

What should really concern the Raptors is they were blown out in Game 1 despite 76ers All-Star and NBA scoring champion Joel Embiid hitting only 5-for-15 from the field for 19 points, although he added 15 rebounds.

James Harden entered in a shooting slump and was 6-for-17 for 22 points but added 14 assists. Tyrese Maxey was the story of the game with 38 points. Just for a point of reference, Maxey scored a total of 25 points in seven games against the Hawks in last season’s Eastern Conference semifinals.  He has really taken a leap in Year 2. Philly outscored Toronto 29-10 in fast-break points. The Sixers are 4-10 ATS in their past 14 following a win.
