Detroit Pistons vs. Phoenix Suns Prediction, NBA Odds
Detroit has suddenly found winning ways on the road, which should encourage the stronger Suns team to prepare properly for this tilt. Despite that, Monty Williams’ Suns are still favourites at -12 on the NBA odds. The O/U sits at 226.5 points scored in total.
Pistons vs. Suns NBA Betting Odds
The recent history between these two opponents speaks to how things have changed in Arizona since 2020 when superstar Chris Paul arrived. Up until the Feb 2021 game claimed by the Suns 109-92, Detroit had won eight consecutive contests dating back to March 2017. Moreover, it wasn’t as if the Pistons were great during that stretch either.
Detroit isn’t worth much if one picks winners but can cover the spread a lot more often than one would think. Basement dwellers in the Eastern Conference with a 5-15 win-loss record, their efforts ATS have earned them an 11-9 tally. Don’t look now, but they’ve covered in five of their past six games. Then again, most of those spreads have been +10 or more. Harsh.
The Suns are a model of relative consistency. They’re at the top of the Western Conference (a position they’ve held a lot since 2021). Seventeen contests have resulted in an 11-6 record, which is perfectly reflected in how they’ve against the spread. Not only do they usually win at home (9-1), but they also cover a lot (8-2).
Detroit Pistons
Somebody forgot to inform Dwayne Casey’s unit this week that they can’t win away from home. Much to the delight of Pistons fans, the squad ventured into the Midwest to duke it out with a couple of Western Conference beasts and won. First was the Denver Nuggets in a game that went back and forth for most of the night. Veteran Bojan Bogdanovic led the way with 22 points and bench player Alec Burks pitched in with a stellar 21 points.
Then came a date with the surprising Utah Jazz. Perhaps more surprising was how the Pistons basically controlled the entire game, save for some Utah runs that didn’t deter the visitors’ determination. The 125-116 victory was greatly assisted by solid shooting (49,4%), and brilliant efficiency from beyond the arc (50%). PF Marvin Bagley III frequently terrorized the key and paint, pitching in with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
PG Cade Cunningham is listed as OUT and SG Jaden Ivey is suddenly day-to-day.
Phoenix Suns
The Western Conference leaders find themselves in a bit of a dogfight for supremacy at this early stage of the campaign. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placed squads are all 0.5 games behind. 5th and 6th are 1 game behind. Life without Chris Paul (injured and will miss Friday’s match) isn’t as smooth as fans would like, but the team has found ways to grind out some fine victories. Their big problem is an inability to carry their grit and style with them when away from home (2-5 road record).
Wednesday night saw them host the moribund Lakers. Without LeBron James, some might have expected a relatively breezy affair. In truth, the Suns fought long and hard to handle their foes, pulling away, if only just, late in the third quarter. The defence in the paint was pedestrian, which led to LA’s Anthony Davis’ terrific night (37 points). SF Mikal Bridges was the key to victory, hitting 5-7 three-pointers and 25 points in total.
